No matter how good it is, I hesitate to support any Disney product as long as Michael Eisner is running the company. They must change their ways.

Thanks, Wizard.
I was hoping a FReeper had seen this. This board is the only "movie critic" I trust for an honest report.

In 'Treasure Island' the original that this animation is using to rip off the plot line Jim Hawkins father leaves his family behind by dying not desertion. Jim's motivation to take part in the voyage of the Hispaniola is in large part to obtain financial security for his mother that this family tragedy has deprived her of. In this post modern retelling the father deserts his family and becomes a member of that famed leftist hate class a 'deadbeat dad'.
O tempor, O mores.

"Opening to low box office...

Disney didn't promote this film enough before it opened in theaters. The only ads I saw were the McDonald's ads promoting the "Treasure Planet" toys in their Happy Meals.

"How is it for young kids, 4-9?"

My whole family thoroughly enjoyed this film. My three grandchildren (ages 4, 7, and 10) thought it was great!

Thanks for the review, Wizard. I totally agree with it.

there were two little girls there with their dad when I went during the day and they were quite through the whole film, which I think means they were watching...

little real violence, great adventure, NO SEX, (although a nicely drawn Captain) a healthy relationship developed between a professor and the captain, ending in marriage....I'd think there was nothing I wouldn't want my kids to see, and a very positive relationship between a mother and a son that I would

I took my four year old, and he loved the film.

I, too, have had trouble with some of Disney's recent left-wing biases, but no less so than the extreme biases of other companies--i.e., Sony, AOLTimeWarner, Paramount, or Dreamworks. It's important for conservatives, however, to patronize films that fit our values (and avoid films that don't. We need to learn to be as good at saving babies as we are throwing out bathwater. This is the only language the industry understands. No doubt, the fact that this film flopped financially sends the message that family fare is dying, and we will pay for that.

This film was a delight--I imagine one day we'll laugh at how it flopped and later gained a cult following.

I loved the Captain, an english woman

Well, I was thinking of seeing this movie. I have never seen a convincing female captain. Not once. The role is too mired in the unreality of political correctness.

Thanks for the feedback, Freepers! I think I'll take the kids. (That is, if it's still in the theaters!)

I took my kids last weekend - they are 11 and 5. They both loved it and so did I. I thought it was positive, exciting, and fun. And I thought it was cool with the whole 19th century meets futuristic sci-fi. It was pulled off quite well. I was afraid that would make it cheesy, but it didn't. And the song was cool, too. I think disney was attracting a wider range of kids with this film - not babyish so the older boys might want to see it, but it is also good for the younger kids, too.

You have to throw out the "reality" for a while - it's fantasy. But the character is fun - she's feisty yet classy.
