Just so. And there are at least some in their ranks who hate enough to commit murder, and others who will send them forth to do so.
That's nothing to be particularly frightened of, but it's wise to be prepared for the possibility that one or more of them will act on their criminal inclinations.

This fact alone will make any trial very interesting. If Brainwashing is a possible defense, McCrae may have an out. McCrae would certainly not be the first, nor the second, wack-job student associated with the Evergreen State College to murder someone.
Indeed. And before killing the California police officer, McCrae may have been involved in a similar ambush murder in Seattle on 11 October 2001, shooting to death an unarmed U.S. Attorney before taking on an armed police officer.
