My review of Michelle's appearance on Hewitt's show having listened to the last 15 minutes of it or so? She BOMBED. She couldn't or wouldn't answer a question, she was contentious (almost to being a b-itch), and had little to offer of substance, except to imply that illegals were committing rampant violent felonies here, there and everywhere. If this is the best she can do, her being a spokesperson for the anti illegal cause is simply one big fumble deep in its own territory.

Since I'm not sure I could find even a glint of daylight between your position and Hugh's where Illegals are concerned, I'm not altogether surprised.

That said, Michelle could have been smoother overall, and certainly could have finessed the various boxes and false dilemmas into which Hugh was trying to manuever her with a bit more finesse.

Hugh's agenda appeared to be to push the RNC party line. I guess he was successful in that. Did he change any minds? I doubt it.

Bascially, the entire exchange sucked. Someone needs to teach Michelle how to answer a question honestly, and then explain the basis of her concern in some coherent way other than ranting that illegals and bad because they are illegals. Folks already know they are illegals, thus the term. Her focus (at least the bit I heard) that they tend to be vicious criminals in many cases quite misses the mark, at least statistically. In fact, other than their illegal status, given their socio economic status, as a group they are remarkably law abiding. You really don't want this woman being a representative of your point of view, to the extent it is different than mine, and much of that difference is a matter of style and weighting the negative consequences. JMO.

I totally disagree with you. Michelle's point is that all illegals have broken the law. What is the point of having an immigration policy and the INS if we are going to have open borders to anyone who wants to come in. People who come in illegally, whether they are terrorists or just people who want to take advantage of the economic benefits, have broken the law.

What kind of respect will they have for the laws of this country if they start out breaking our immigration laws? Also....why should they be allowed in ahead of immigrants who have applied for entry through the proper channels?

I totally disagree that Michelle bombed. I thought she was right on point. Hugh was trying to get her to say how many of the illegals are terrorists. That is a totally irrelevant question. We should have an INS that is able to enforce our immigration policy and protect our borders. As it is now they are total incompetents.

Everyone knows they are illegal. The issue is what are the short and long term consequences, and what policies should be adopted in response, and why, and what are the consequences of those. A few anecdotes simply is not persuasive except to those already diehards who simply want a bit more red meat for their larder.

Gee I thought this is how we determined our laws and policies in the first place. Instead of being arrogant lets go ahead and follow the rule of law and respect the will of the people and their constitutional rights.
