Oh great.
I suppose this will set the precedent to argue in the future that the U.S. has acquiesced to allowing the UN zoo to take over American sovereignty?

What a crock.

When the UN shows me the enforced resolutions to prevent the millions dead from senseless volence in Africa and Asia, I might begin to take that historical Joke seriously...

Saddam cannot accept the provisions of this resolution without his regime being fatally weakened. But if he doesn't, America, Britain and Australia will put a bullet in his head. Game, set, match.

RobFromGa's Short Version of The Resolution:

The US (and the rest of the UN) DEMANDS THAT IRAQ:

1. TELL US WITHIN 7 DAYS IF YOU WANT TO GO THRU WITH THIS INSPECTIONS FARCE.
2. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO PLAY ALONG, WE ATTACK.
3. TELL US EVERYTHING YOU HAVE NOW IN POSSESSION.
4: IF YOU LIE TO US, WE ATTACK.
5. Note: in the resolution "MATERIAL BREACH" are the words that mean WE CAN ATTACK. It means we can take whatever action against IRAQ we want-- without further UN decisions.
6. OUR INSPECTORS CAN GO ANYWHERE AT ANY TIME. (including palaces)
7. IF YOU TRY TO STOP THEM, WE ATTACK.
8. WE CAN INTERVIEW ANYONE WE WANT, WITH THEIR ENTIRE FAMILIES, OUTSIDE IRAQ, WITH NO IRAQI OFFICIALS PRESENT-- ANYTIME WE WANT.
9. IF YOU TRY TO STOP THEM, WE ATTACK.
10. AND IF YOU DRAG YOUR FEET OR SCREW AROUND, WE ATTACK.
11. THE USA RESERVES THE RIGHT TO ATTACK UNILATERALLY AT ANY TIME, FOR ANY REASON, WITHOUT UN PERMISSION.

Gee whiz that stupid shrub, Bush, won again. How can the UN Security council approve this terrible plan 15 to 0!

This is the death warrant for Saddam. Now every Iraqi with a gun or a hand grenade has a good reason to kill Saddam before they, their families and country look like those al Qaeda goat humping thugs looked like in Yemen after they were removed.

Next, will be Iraq and Syria as part of the Axis of Evil to be purged and flushed down the toilet. The murdering Mullahs of Irag and Islamofascist thugs in control of Syria in these two countries are living on borrowed time. Either we will kill them or their countrymen will kill them.

Anyone who has read the resolution understand that this is ANOTHER watered down, no action, no authority declaration handed down by the U.N. It is no better than the crap that was delegated back in the early 90s.

I read the full draft on FoxNews and not once does it mention the possibility or threat of force against Iraq. Instead, it says:

4. Decides that false statements or omissions in the declarations submitted by Iraq pursuant to this resolution and failure by Iraq at any time to comply with, and cooperate fully in the implementation of, this resolution shall constitute a further material breach of Iraq's obligations and will be reported to the council for assessment in accordance with paragraph 11 or 12 below;

And then pargraphs 11 and 12 go on to say....

11. Directs the executive chairman of UNMOVIC and the director general of the IAEA to report immediately to the council any interference by Iraq with inspection activities, as well as any failure by Iraq to comply with its disarmament obligations, including its obligations regarding inspections under this resolution;

12. Decides to convene immediately upon receipt of a report in accordance with paragraphs 4 or 11 above, in order to consider the situation and the need for full compliance with all of the relevant council resolutions in order to restore international peace and security;

So basically, we haven't done jack $hit in terms of changing anything. It's the same old paper tiger crap the U.N. threw up last time around.

I'm very dissapointed in our recognition of the U.N. When are we going to tell them to take a flying leap and take it upon ourselves to do what is best for America. We're wasting valuable time....ONCE AGAIN. Will we ever learn?

The devil's in the details.
From MSNBC:

According to a strict timeline in the resolution, Iraq would have seven days to accept the resolution’s terms and 30 days to declare all its chemical, biological and nuclear programs. Blix, the chief weapons inspector, said Iraq might have difficulty making a declaration of its large petrochemical industry in that time, but the United States decided against giving Baghdad more time.

Blix has said an advance team of inspectors would be on the ground within 10 days. Inspectors would have up to 45 days to actually begin work, and must report to the council 60 days later on Iraq’s performance.

This is the timeline. If I read this right, the report comes back to the security council in 7+10+45+60=122 days. That would put us at the tail end of the weather window we need to take 'em out. Any additional delay and we must wait until fall.

Inspectors will have “unconditional and unrestricted access” to all sites, including eight presidential compounds where surprise inspections have been barred. Any Iraqi obstructions or noncompliance would be reported immediately to the council for assessment.

"Assessment" eh?

In other words, more delay.

Time will tell, but it looks to me like Saddam just bought himself a LOT of time. 'Course, he may do something stupid, like defy the resolution.

I'm surprised even Syria vote for the resolution.

I suspect our "negotiations" with the Syrian government on the issue went something like this:

BUSH: Listen, you terror-sponsoring bass-ackwards Jihadists, if you don't vote to let us defend ourselves, we'll come for your camel-jockey arses next.

SYRIAN TOWELHEADS: Please forgive us, Mr. President. We don't want you beat the living snot out of us. We'll obey! We'll obey!

We in the U.S. are about the only country where playing poker is practised to perfection. While the others, especially the europeans always blink and play from weakness, we know how to play from strength.It has always been that way.

How this will actually play out over the next month or so:

Iraq "complies" and "reports" the stuff they supposedly has.

Then GWB has Negroponte set up an easel at the Security Counsel and run through a little presentation on all the stuff that Saddam didn't report that our intel knows for a fact that he has.

Checkmate.
