I miss my grandma, too--just remembering how she talked brought back so many memories....she'd have her daily phone calls with her friend, Min, all in German--forgetting, of course, that by being around she & Grandpa & their friends so much, I knew enough German to know who they were talking about--AND I always knew what we were getting for Christmas from them, and of course, where our presents were hidden.

About the only differences between how Moose talks and my Gram talked was that Gram said, "wid," not "wif." Otherwise, it was the same problem with the "th" sound, although the German was a harder accent, rather than the softer Southern accent of Moose. And when I'm around people who talk with that German-influenced accent, I will slip into it, even though it's taken years to get away from it. In fact, when I'm in conversations with clients, some have even asked me, "where are you from? You're not from HERE, are you?"

I agree that the criticism of Moose's speech patterns is silly. But such criticism is not "racist" -- not unless we are back in the sad days when by putting "latent" in front of some slander we could make it apply to anyone.

"Apparently, you won't be happy until everyone has a bland, made-for-TV, non-regional accent, with everyone in the US sounding alike."

Actually, if everyone spoke mid western bland, there'd be a lot more communicatin' goin' on.

Political correctness can scare a lot of conservatives and force them into defense mode, even on FR. The moderators probably don't think the comments are racist. They just have to say that in case some liberal is monitoring the site waiting to paint it as a hate-site.

Moi rant? LOL!

It's only when Brit tucks his chin down into his chest that he gets that "I'm going to burp in a sec" sound. The rest of the time he's fine. I didn't even get into Susan Estrich's braying or Chris Matthews' spitting, but hey, I only have so much time, ya know, and I usually just turn them off as soon as I see them. I like Tony Snow's voice, but Mara--UGH.

But Rita Cosby's little whistle in the back of her voice doesn't just drive me nuts. It absolutely drives my dog nuts. His ears prick up, he starts cocking his head from side to side--then he starts to whine, then bark at the set. It makes watching Fox News difficult when she's doing her show.

And I do have an accent, but boy, I've worked hard to get rid of it, and it helped that my Dad would correct us when we'd slip into that south side Milwaukee accent. I remember talking to a friend from Ohio and said something offhand to her. She said, "that's the first time I've ever head you sound like you come from Wisconsin." I said, "hey, that's where I'm from, dontcha know!" But I tell ya, when we're *someplace else* it's almost a comfort to hear people talk like us.

"You're not from HERE, are you?""

Same here. In fact when I get asked what part of the south y'all from, I reply "South Boston" (Grew up in Iowa, live in Boston area).

That's pretty much how I sound most days--midwest bland. Except, of course, on Packer game days.

My problem with your reliance on a 'sniper database' is which plates/cars would have been put into it? The ten or so times that Muhammed's plates were entered by police work in various locales had nothing to do with people getting shot. I understand your concept in using a database to see what 'floats up to the top.' What I would like you to explain to me is what would be the parameters for inputting, and where is this database?

Is it every traffic stop within a 50 mile radius of I 95? Or what?

Somehow, I think you and I might be watching a bit too much television! You are so right abut Matthews and Estrich. Her face is a test of my reflexes reaching for the remote, and I only see Chris Matthews if I am going between Hannitty(Fox) and Kudlow (CNBC). I never stop on his show.

Thanks for the Gensler info. He ruined his chances when he made his big announcement that he would be prosecuting the sniper duo. The Republican election victory in Maryland and nationwide put the final nail in Gensler's coffin.

Aside from his career, I do not see how the man succeeded in acquiring the degrees he has. Did someone do it for him?

The fact of the matter is that the police were virtually worthless in this case. It was civilian witnesses who reported the blue Caprice, it was civilian radio talk show hosts who reported the car to the public (while the police wanted the news suppressed), and it was civilians at a rest stop who blocked the car in with their trucks. If civilians had been allowed to carry guns as well, they could have made the arrest, too.

BTW, when Muhammed lived in Tacoma, Washington, his neighbors called the police, complaining that he was target practicing with a rifle in his back yard. The police did nothing. Which is why Muhammed became the Beltway Sniper, instead of sitting out 2002 in jail.

If Iraq blows up in our face and our economy tanks, Hillery could be the next POTUS.

After today's events at the UN, the chances have drastically increased that Saddam will go without a war. Which would mean there would be no chance of a military debacle in Iraq.

And they didn't have any suspects in the shooting of the young woman in Washington state--the babysitter, I do believe--until after Mohammed and Malvo were arrested. The woman who lived in the house where the young woman was shot was the woman who helped Mohammed's ex-wife get her children back after Mohammed took them to Antigua. For some reason, the police didn't make the connection between the shooting and Mohammed until there was a ballistics match.

From the way they have behaved, it's apparent that even Moose and County Executive Duncan -- Democrats though they are -- have no use for Gansler's grandstanding.

I know that he purposely mispronounces some words and some names. His use of the British pronounciation of schedule is an affectation, however. And I beg to differ about his pronounciation of the word ask. He genuinely has trouble with it.

What I'm trying to figure out is how Moose ended up to be the only person on the taskforce and that he and he alone was the only one to investigate, to make decisions and to profile. Can you enlighten me?

I dont give a crap if Moose is purple...he screwed up and did it big time....any nitwit with a Google search engine armed with "Word is Bond" and "I am god" is led directley to Hip Hop, and Black Muslim sites....Some of the earliest reports included people of color at the scene as well...

Are we to assume that the a bunch of (white)Feds were running the the show of this obviousley overly race-conscious individual? I highly doubt it...

Further: If Moose wasnt in charge of the Whole Tamale...he was in charge of his Tamale...and that included his entire county and all those that served under him....he was derilict in his duty...and he was Black(so what?)...

He cost lives because of his derelict action...and YES it is possible he cost even more lives. Not because he was Black, But Because He Just Might Be A Black Racist...

Why do you have such a hard time with that...?

Rush is a maestro of our language. He is stone deaf and still can riff into monologues with or without accent of many political leaders. He does not mispronounce anything accidentally. He plays with words, hence "shedule."

Do you remember the esteemed Surgeon General from Arkansas in the Clinton Cabinet? It is she who introduced "axe" to Rush. It is the same reason why he says Coomo for Cuomo. Just for fun!
