We must not underestimate this woman, and her domination & control of the Democratic party. If she wants the nomination, she'll get it.

It's vital that we are prepared for the eventuality of her '08 candidacy. Hillary will use the next 6 years to quietly move more towards the center, and improve her image.

Source Says Hillary Doesn't Think She Could Win In 2004

She's going to have problems running against Pataki in '06, making her run in '08 moot.

This will be after Rudy boots Chuckie out in '04 on President Bush's coattails.

My biggest fear is Russ Feingold (Rat-WI). Watch for the DNC to quietly push him into becoming the 2004 candidate of their choice.

She is not immune in 2006.

(1) Black voters came out for her in droves in 2000. Black voters will now be less than fired up about her. Many black voters feel that she sabotaged Carl McCall's gubernatorial race. Her Clinton administration crony Andrew Cuomo spent months dragging McCall through the mud before dropping out of the Democratic primary. Then her other Clinton administration crony Terry McAuliffe refused to help McCall and spent big on McAuliffe's white friend Bill McBride in Florida, who was trounced almost as solidly as McCall was.

(2) She was being sent as a Democrat to a Democrat-controlled Senate. If the Republican party still controls the Senate in 2006, the case can be made to independents and some Democrats that NY needs a moderate Republican in Washington to further the state's interests.

(3) She was elected before 9/11. Pataki won statewide mostly because he was perceived as having responded correctly to 9/11. Clinton's obstructionism on homeland security will come back to haunt her.

If the right Republican can be found, she will prove to be vulnerable in ways she wasn't in 2000.

I expect she'll run in '04. The sooner she runs the more she can bask in the aura of The Clinton Administration - which (while it makes us retch) generates all kinds of warm fuzzies for her supporters. The longer she takes to run the more that aura fades and the more she'll have to run on her own merits as a legislator, which are practically nil. If she doesn't run ASAP, she'll fade and other real politicians (whether we like them or not) will step in.

Don't underestimate the political situation either: in '04, she will have the rare opportunity to run against Republican-dominated gov't. Despite any success Bush may have in the next 2 years, those opposing Bush will become energized to run against Bush's failures AND successes, and few will be able to whip the opposition into a frenzy like Hillary (precisely because she is all symbolism and no substance).

She may not win in '04, but by trying she'll move into position for an '08 run. Her time is limited, and she must run ASAP. She'll try like he11 to run in '04.

Before 9/11 Bush's presidency was floundering and Hillary was a shoo-in for 2004. The military and terrorist situation coaleased people around Bush. If the military and terrorist situation continues, Hillary is out of the box for 2004. If it is resolved, Bush's popularity will plummet in the same way as did his father's and for the same reasons and more. At that point Hillary will take the presidency. If it is not resolved she will let a stooge take the fall instead of her in 2004 and wait for 2008. A lot of things can happen between now and 2004. A lot of things can happen between now and 2008.

That she is the most powerful force in, and owns, the Democratic party should not be doubted. She also has full support of the media. But she doesn't have control over quirks of history.

Let me also add that a person in their 50s can age a lot in six years. Hillary's dynamic youthful image can deteriorate substantially. Hillary is fighting the clock, even with plastic surgery.

She won't run in 2004, unless Bush stumbles very badly. She knows that she only has one chance to win, losing would be very problematic, because every campaign she runs takes a little more oommph out of her base and causes her negative image to increase.
