I'm using Mozilla v3.1

You probably mean 1.3, I imagine ;)

I very much like Mozilla's ability to block pop-ups - what the setting in the prefs panel actually does is cause the browser to ignore the Javascript window.open() method when it's called in certain ways (as part of an onload or onunload scripted event, in case you care).

But there are ways around that. One way you can expect to see more and more of is due to the fact that Flash presentations can also make Jscript calls, which Mozilla can't (yet?) block - here's a example of a page (don't worry, it's harmless) that will spawn a popup window, even in Mozilla. Alas, the arms race never really ends ;)

Thanks you so much for recommending AdAware. I ran it myself, and it fixed my problems with pop-ups! Every time I visited Yahoo! Mail, the same site would pop-up, and now it doesn't do it anymore! Praise the Lord! :-)

AdAware doesn't prevent pop-ups. It's supposed to find and get rid of spyware the pop-ups create. I had a problem with Xupiter spyware, and AdAware wasn't effective.

SpyBot Search and Destroy did the trick and much more.

To prevent pop-ups I've been using panicware.

Both of these downloads are free and definately worth it.

Try out the new Netscape Browser, it has a built in pop-up blocker. Been running it about a month, no more pop-ups.
