DFL chieftains immediately decided on Mondale, and quickly talked him into it. "I wonder whether there is such a dearth of new material that we have to recycle these old men," one veteran Democratic national operative told me. There was one other possibility: Alan Page, the 57-year-old former Notre Dame and Minnesota Vikings football star who has been an associate justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court since 1993. A law-and-order liberal, Page has led the state Democratic ticket in recent elections. According to Minnesota sources, he was eager to seek the Senate seat. But the DFL apparently did not want to risk running the African-American Page in an overwhelmingly Caucasian state, and Page was swiftly discouraged.

Done! I just sent this article with certain quotes in BOLD to the talk show hosts on the biggest, furthest-reaching radio station in Chicago - 50,000 watt "blower", some of whom were trying to spin this one like crazy yesterday.

Quote worth blowing up in bigger, bolder, font!:

A law-and-order liberal, Page has led the state Democratic ticket in recent elections. According to Minnesota sources, he was eager to seek the Senate seat. But the DFL apparently did not want to risk running the African-American Page in an overwhelmingly Caucasian state, and Page was swiftly discouraged.

I'm sending this one to Rev-uh-rund Jess-ah Jahk-son!

And the Minnesota of 1984 was a lot more liberal than the Minnesota of today.

That's very hard to believe considering that they sent Wellstone to the senate for 2 terms and may well send Mondale for one.

Look at your pic of the impeached former president. Does anybody normal really laugh like that? Doesn't that appear as a affected guffaw? Is there nothing genuine about the cumbersome, clodlike, cartoonish, corpulent clinton?

The disbarred, impeached "husband" of Hillary yucking it up over the corpse of Wellstone and his new "buddy," the moronic insufferable Mondale.

The smirking, evil democrats showing what they really feel about Wellstone, spitting on his grave. The Republicans honored Wellstone far more that the loathsome Democrat Party ever did!

Worth repeating:

There was one other possibility: Alan Page, the 57-year-old former Notre Dame and Minnesota Vikings football star who has been an associate justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court since 1993. A law-and-order liberal, Page has led the state Democratic ticket in recent elections. According to Minnesota sources, he was eager to seek the Senate seat. But the DFL apparently did not want to risk running the African-American Page in an overwhelmingly Caucasian state, and Page was swiftly discouraged.

So according to liberal logic, Bush is racist when he appoints Colin Powell and Condolezza Rice to two of the most important Cabinet positions based on their abilities and accomplishments, but the Democrats are not racist when they prevent Alan Page from running for the Senate, despite his ability and accomplishments, solely because of the color of his skin.

The revenue would go to the University or the private contractor that does the commissary on its grounds. When the arena is being used, the concessions are opened.Nothing nefarious, it's just tacky. As you would expect ;-)

The ONLY message Dem candidtes have is to beg for "balance" meaning we need a Dem majority for them to have a "voice". They have NO solutions, ideas that strike a chord, etc. They are once again using the FEAR factor in that we have to have a Dem senate majority or Bush and the GOP will cause the end of the world.

Do the concessions have to be open? And were they selling anything besides food? And why were so many people expected in the first place? Were union people bussed in? And aren't there any huge mega churches in the area that could handle a large crowd? Or do Dems break out in a rash if they enter a place of worship?

Is the concession stand ALWAYS opened? For example, is the concession stand opened if the arena is used for commencement exercises? Is the concession stand opened for religious services, like baccaulareate? Has there been a memorial service for students? Surely there was a memorial service for 9/11...did they open the concession stand then?

I am serious about this, habs. I do not think that concession stands are ALWAYS opened. For example, when the RCA Dome in Indy was used for the Promise Keepers and Billy Graham, I don't think concession stands were opened.

I don't know. If they were selling beer and brats, that would be the last straw.

I still don't think that the concession stands would be open at a TRUE memorial service. I doubt they are open during commencement ceremonies, for example.

It could be part of the service contract, I just don't know.Unless it was being done by the University's own food services arm, but normally, they would stay open and available.

And we really, really need to find out if anything was being sold besides food. If they were selling political tchotchkes(sp)...$$#@#@@!

This story has not been given enough play. Can anyone imagine any state Republican party doing this?
