What a wonderful presentation, daisy, of a fascinating person and topic!

My favorite science displays were those of the Aurora Borealis when I lived in Fairbanks, Alaska for 3 1/2 years.

Here are a few samples:

Good Morning!

That's another thing that you and .45MAN have in common. He was stationed in Alaska for two and a half years while in the Air Force in the mid-sixties.

He speaks so fondly of aurora borealis as well as the ***tranquility*** that can be found only in Alaska. I have lived vicariously through his stories.

The closest I've ever been to witnessing aurora borealis was at an IMAX theater at the Orlando Science Museum a few years ago. Just that alone was breathtaking.

Good morning Lady - thanks for the northern lights - they are stunning.

You'll be pleased to know that the Glocktoberfest and al clayda shootout will be held tomorrow in Houston regardless of what MotherNature has in store for us. Molon Labe

I have been in Maine goin on 7 years and have only seen "Northern Lights" twice. I have seen a bluegrass band by that name 3 times.

Lorelei, a welcome is due you, posting near the end of a thread night before last!
Few saw it, and I wanted you to know how much we appreciate newcomers, and hope you'll be with us daily.

This was Lorelei's post, Finest Family, deserving of recognition:

"Hi - just wanted you all to know that I appreciate what you do here. FR's Finest has helped me to get to know some of the other people on freerepublic - thank you to everyone involved in doing these bios. I have been coming to freerepublic for almost a year, - but I just signed up this morning, in fact, this is my very first post. I thought this would be a good place to start.

Thanks again for introducing me to some fine people over the past few weeks."

Hope everyone has a great weekend. It has been another great week at FR and as much as I dislike Monday's I always look forward to returning to the daily threads.

The sniper has been caught so hopefully those in the DC area can enjoy a weekend free from fear. Stay alert nonetheless. There will always be someone trying to scare our freedom out of us.

Four stars here in a very soggy central Texas. Good to see you bright and early today.

Remember to slide all the clocks back over the weekend - it's that time of year again.

I was in Fairbanks from 6 January 1963 to 1 June 1966!!
The highlight, of course, was the Good Friday Earthquake in March of 1964.
Were you there during those years, .45MAN?!
What MOS?

Small world indeed, angel, with our Florida connection, too.
When I was growing up, Sebastian didn't even have a stoplight!

Do you know the group of three edifices on New Haven Avenue that now is an art museum?
Of those three buildings, one held grades 1-6; one 7-12; and the third was the cafeteria, band room, and storage rooms.

It was the only school for all children from Sebastian to halfway to Cocoa, and over to the St. John's River!!
Melbourne in 1943 had only about 5,000 citizens.

May the skies smile upon you tomorrow, loddy, and the Range Rovers & Friends be victorious in their relentless pursuit of the al-Clayda Army!
How outrageous - um, courageous you are, taking on so formidable a foe, outnumbering you a thousand to one!

{{{HUGS}}} for the brave conquerors !!!
