Whether we like it or not, many people in this election are faced with lesser of two evils choices. I agree that a leader should be held to a higher moral standard, and I think that being unfaithful to a spouse is despicable and inexcusable. I'm guessing that that was the case with Hutchinson based on this discussion. Like I said before, I wouldn't expect someone to cross a line that their conscience would condemn.

I'm not so sure. Posters are suggesting that one should set aside high moral standards to maintain a Republican Senate, affairs be damned.

I suspect you have some kind of agenda and it is not to see Hutchinson elected. We are not electing the Pope. We are electing someone to represent us who will defend our views. Hutchinson needs to be elected not only because he will defend our views but also because he will be part of the Senate majority!

Okay, I'll tell her to set aside her moral values and vote for an adulterer so a pro-abortion candidate doesn't get in. That is what you're saying, isn't it?

Doesn't hardly seem fair does it? But then again life isn't fair. That is the first rule in life's rule book. (No. 2 is "When in doubt, see rule no. 1.")

But you see, the alternative to choosing the lesser of two evils is choosing the greater of two evils. Either the philaderer or the baby-killer, those are the choices.

Remember what Churchill (a die-hard Red-hater) said when asked to defend his support of the Soviet Union after Hitler invaded it: "If Hitler invaded Hell, I would find a kind word for the Devil." Sometimes that's what you have to do.

IMHO Mr.Hutchinson, once upon a time, may have used his position as a minister, moral person and married family man, as a reason for the good citizens of Arkansas to vote for him.

As for Religious Conservatives refraining from voting for Tim, I am reminded of Barry Goldwater's assertion that "it is time to GROW UP CONSERVATIVES".

Amen. As for the religious conservatives, they can take comfort from the example of David. With the world at stake, The Senate taking its cues from PFAW and Jesse Jackson getting praise from our press for pushing Commie Lulu in Brazil...we must grow up.

We have some Florida Freepers who have their pet issues and gripes with Jeb Bush, one of the best governors in the nation. They would stay home and help a Clinton clone and his Hillary clone wife win the governors seat which would energize the commiecrat base and change the world.

I have no patience for anyone who would help the Senate remain in Daschle's hands.

What would the world be like today if Arkansas voters had never elected Clinton? How bad was his opponent that Republicans allowed Clinton to win?

The difference between clinton and Hutchinson is that Hutch is repentent and clinton isn't. If I lived in Arkansas, I would not let this divorce stand in my way. If she dug a little deeper, she would find out that NOT voting makes it more likely that clinton-clone Pryor will win. If I remember correctly, you're not much of a Republican/Bush fan to start with. If you were, you would be trying to get her to vote for Tim. The Senate is at stake here - judges are at stake here...heck, a lot of things are at stake here. Some people just don't get it and I sure hope there are some awakenings before November 5th.

Well, it's a serious business. I'm sorry to hear that people are still planning to withhold votes from Hutchinson, who will be pro-life and generally conservative in his votes, when such a position may help elect a scum like Pryor. I like the way the Democrat Gazette sums up Pryor's evasions and lies on this subject:

If Mark Pryor gets pregnant, he promises to have the baby.

Yep. Dead on about the Senate. The slogan for the Kamikaze Conservatives seems to be better 10,000 more dead babies than one more philandering Senator.

You're right! They are totally Kamikaze. I hope some of these clueless ones eventually come to the party and before election day. But, if they are like the catspaw, they should be neutered from ever voting.

Wow! Great post! I loved this line:

"The slogan for the Kamikaze Conservatives seems to be better 10,000 more dead babies than one more philandering Senator."

That's it in a nutshell. Some of these people think their moral standards are more important than dead children. Geez.

During World War I it is recorded that very senior British intelligence officers would not open German letters that fell into their hands because “Gentlemen do not read other gentlemen’s mail.” They had no problem sending their men across open fields in the face of machine gun fire to die on barbed wire. I see that a certain brand of morality has survived into the new millennium.

What would the world be like today if Arkansas voters had never elected Clinton?

Well, the mind boggles.

As loathsome and contemptible as I find the "natural" state, after having lived there for 25 years, I will say in their defense that while a few of us did shout warnings in 1992, nobody from Arkansas forced the rest of the country to make such a horrible mistake.

I share a lot of sympathy for those not voting for him, but this election is too important to allow Demoncrats to maintain control of the Senate. Please reason with her.

I guess your Mom didnt notice that Dole was twice married.

He was still a good man.

I dont know the personal details here, but it would be sad to see the Senate go Democrat over this kind of situation. I dont see how he is worse than the X% of Americans who go through with this. And it is a lot BETTER than the many politicians who have kept fake marriages and fooled around on the side (Gary Hart comes to mind).

Ironically, this conservative AR woman will be making it more likely that partial birth abortion will not be banned in the U.S. when she skips the senatorial ballot. Hutchinson won the primary by a large margin. AR Republicans would not replace him with a conservative without his personal baggage. Therefore, it seems to me that Republicans in AR (hardly a large majority of the people anyway) do not have the luxury of boycotting the Hutchinson candidacy at this late date out of moral outrage. Such action will merely bring laughter to the faces of David and Mark Pryor!

Hutchinson had primary opposition, and the voters renominated him by a wide margin. The AR GOP voters wanted Hutchinson!

Did she know that Bob Dole "pulled a Hutchinson" in 1973 or so? He replaced Phyllis with Liddy.

Point well taken, muleboy, and no personal offense intended. Some of our Fla. conservatives are sitting on their self-rightous clymers while a real far left Clymer is schmoozing the sheeple. They won't hear. Slapping them upside the head is not an option...so I rant. Sorry.

A friend of mine who lives in Arkansas will not be voting for Hutchinson for the reasons you cited. She won't be voting for Pryor, but she cannot bring herself to vote for Hutchinson.

Friends don't let friends NOT bring themselves to vote against a Democrat.
