I downloaded and installed the free version of Pop-Up Stopper, last night. Now, no more stinkin' pop-ups when I get on the Drudge and Newsmax sites!

Thanks

What is the system overhead for the stopper? I have so little system memory and hard drive space left that I'm afraid to download anything.
Hard drive space for the pop-up stopper looks like about 928KB for the program and associated files. Another 425KB for the installer, uninstaller, etc. A couple of 1KB shortcuts. System memory - not much.

If these aren't enough, try www.pcmag.com and look for scriptonoff.js

Use Opera as your browser. Opera is highly effective against popups (I've never had one get through). Also, it's easy to enable and disable the anti-popup feature, which you sometimes need to do to use some features on some sites.

This is the one I use, yet the one that slips through most often is "classmates"; the darned thing completely covers my laptop screen, and no way to close. Otherwise, Panicware does an acceptable job.

Just wait, you'll eventually get that darned "classmates" at the Drudge site.

"Is Dirk still a jerk?". Who cares?!
So far, I haven't gotten it. I don't know why they think I would want to keep tabs on people I was happy to get away from.

You shouldn't get popups at Drudge unless you have some kind of spyware on your computer. Drudge doesn't have popups. They are third-party intrusions on his site.
Try running LavaSoft Ad-Aware to get rid of the spyware, in addition to Pop-Up Stopper.

Thanks for that info!

I use a proxy filter called Proxomitron. It gives you a great deal of control, and blocks all types of ads more effectively than anything else I've tried, but it may be to involved if you don't know much about html or regular expressions.

I use the Java version. A lot of things you wouldn't think of are scripted in Java (e.g., voting in an online poll.)
I keep the Javascript function turned off until I come to something that actually needs it, then it's easy to turn on - click file, then quick preferences.

What a coincidence...I just downloaded one today...works real nice so far! I can visit Drudge again.
NO ADS
