Truth be it you feel our law to be excessive. Perhaps you feel it so, but in our state, only a few would take issue with it, mostly those who feel its sting.

I feel it to be excessive in the same way I feel gun control laws to be excessive. And most people don't object to those either.

I see a salient difference. These people lose the tools they used in committing a crime. They did something wrong, and are being punished for it. Period. Note that the firearms used in the crime are siezed, not all of their guns (unless those are the only firearms they own). Nor is their right to own a firearm taken away.

Gun control laws assume (as in a Bill of Attainder) that everyone who owns a gun will commit a criminal act, and takes a basic right from those who have committed no crime.

Enormous difference. I hate gun control laws. I remember the days when dad could fill out a form and send Herter's a check and a rifle or shotgun would come in the US Mail. I even have a Herter's catalog from that era, which I keep as a reminder of the rights we have already lost. No way am I soft on Gun Control.

But this is no more gun control than taking away the gun from an armed robber. In this case, the basic right to own a firearm is not infringed nor revoked (unless Federal Land makes their poaching a felony), but the firearms used in the crime are forfeit.

That does make a difference. I was under the impression that it was all their firearms. Thank you for the clarification.

Jeeez, no. Not unless they were using all of their firearms. Only the items used to break the law, (guns, and can extend to vehicle, boat, etc.), depending on the severity of the offense and prosecutorial discretion. Keep in mind that this doesn't stop the person from buying more firearms, unless they reached the felony level.

Look up the whacking you'd get for a Bald Eagle or spotted Owl (keep in mind a Felony means bye-bye to the littlest peashooter in the closet......)Yikes!

In places, mere urination on the ground (out in the boonies, folks), is just short of a capital offense. ...and never, ever, step on an endangered plant.

The Federal rules are so rabid, I won't hunt Federal Land, despite being just 45 miles from the Little Missouri Grasslands (Mule Deer, upland game birds.).
