Today the Beltway Shootings Commentary thread was moved from Breaking News to Extended News and back to Breaking News. As a result, I asked the site administrator what their preference was and it was determined that it will be on a case-by-case basis. Each morning I will post this thread in the Extended News section vs. the previous posts to Breaking News. Should events warrant a move to Breaking News, feel free to notify the site administrator and they will make a decision. If you want off the ping list, please let me know (I try to check in at least once a day).

They would like you to think ballistic matching is fool-proof but there is a lot of "art" in their interpretation. There have been several threads on ballistic fingerprinting the last few days. Most have concentrated on how easy it is to change these ballistic markings, but it should be clear that if they are easy to change, then they are subject to interpretation. IOW, it's kind of like handwriting analysis, some science, some art. Maybe more science than art, but some art still.

Heard this on CNN. Eye witness accounts from 2 different scenes have it as 2 men, dark skinned, middle eastern looking. :) All sorts of people on now squawking about how you can't depend on eye witnesses. :)

Glenspending is including two counties where the sniper has never shot (conveniently including Anne Arundel, which contains the state capital, where Glenspending currently resides.)

I think someone earlier in this thread (long time ago), speculated that the next sniper hit would be in Ann Arundel. (And who is she?)

Let's say an innocent hunter is seen walking into a wooded area with his weapon and some little old lady sees him. Will she think hunter "hope he gets a deer," or will she think sniper and call the authorities? It may save some time and trouble.

Yes, that is the site administrator's preference. It was felt that two threads on the same topic was not needed. The decision will please some and displease others. I just hope that if we post graphics they are new and only posted once.

Frankly, I'm hoping an armed citizen catches these guys in the act and wastes them at point blank range before our compassionate justice system has the chance to let them go!

They just need to stay in MD to avoid having that happen: Gov. Glenspending has said we can't fire firearms in this state.
