"Kostunica campaigned by declaring that the elections will represent a popular referendum on the fate of the Serbian government and Djindjic," the party said. "Since the referendum failed, if Kostunica has morals, he would resign."

What a stupid statement! How many clowns are members of Djindjic's party?

The law mandating at least 50-percent voter turnout was imposed by Milosevic in 1997 as a way to manipulate election results and invalidate a possible victory by one of his political opponents who was seeking office at the time.

Lilic vs. Seselj

AP hates Kostunica because he is a sensible Serbian nationalist who doesn't accept clinton's little favor of bombing Belgrade for its own good. That's presumably why they came up with this ridiculous headline.

In the long run, the US will be much better off with Kostunica in power than the corrupt manipulator Djindjic.

Wouldn't it work a lot better if they just had a Constitution?

Didn't Sheshel actually get just short of a 50% majority against Lilich?

Yes, Seselj got 50+ percent, but I don't remember the exact number anymore. He did beat Lilic. The voter turnout, was somewhere about 49,9 percent, so we had a second round with Milutinovic instead of Lilic. ;) Remember because I was there to cast my vote too at that time!

The election is valid, even though Djindjich's cronies in the RIK say it isn't. They simply used outdated voter lists... There are 7.5 million people in Serbia (exc. Kosmet) and out of those, 6.5 million are voters! COME ON! That would mean that just 1 million people are younger than 18, which is impossible.

Koshtunitsa won, plain and simple. The election has been hijacked.

Koshtunitsa got 2 million votes. Labus won in his "traditional" municipalities.
