The more important question (and hope) in the minds of the media is whether or not the perp has had right wing conservative influence, and is a white male, and maybe even an NRA member, or a militia type, or best of all..... all the above.

Nah man, Oswald was a radar operator, wasn't he? And when he was in the USMC didn't have any sniper MOS

that's true, but every Marine is supposed to be a rifleman first. Charles Whitman, the Texas Tower shooter, was also a Marine.

I didn't say Oswald got his sniper training with the USMC. He was over in Russia for some time, and got his training there. His US military service was irrelevant to his capabilities as a sniper.

I'm waiting for the poll-Do you think the shooter is a conservative or registered Republican? If the perp is caught before Election Day-expect the media to dissect his background, looking for anything that the Democrats could use as an issue. If he's ex military, a registered Republican or a member of the NRA- the media will make those three, co conspirators.

got that right....this perp is too good tho and has some damn good planning and timing. I think there is a team involved....we even trained an Al Quaeda operative in the us army SF.....he could have some of both. I would not be surprised if this turns out to be the work of an al Quaeda operative.

Military men have a code that would prevent them from shooting unarmed U.S. Civilians.

Which code is that? Never heard of it. There are murderers in the ranks of the military. There was one last week who killed his unarmed girlfriend in Germany. I knew of one in Fulda, Germany that chopped off another fellow's head and put it in an AAFES shopping bag. In the town where I was stationed, an enlisted man raped and brutally strangled an officer's wife. Tim McVeigh- well we all know what he did. Lee Harvey Oswald killed the President of the USA. Recently there were a spate of killings at Ft Bragg by military members.

Like I said- which code? There is a normal cross section of society in the military. Smart/stupid, tall/short, mean/nice, level headed/psychos. We all respect the job they do, but let's not kid ourselves, they are not all saints and I know this from experience.

I don't know about military experience, but I'm beginning to wonder if he owns his own business. If not, surely by now his employer would have noticed tardiness or absence, as well as monkey business with the company vehicles.

Nothing in his "style" suggests military training. He is just some whacko with a grudge who bought a really good scope. If he were a military sniper he would be shooting from a lot farther away. He would also be selecting more difficult targets to show how good of a shot he is. Oh yes, there would be fewer survivors as well, and nobody would have seen his get away vehicle.

If he were military, there would be signifigantly fewer clues.

Military Snipers are selected for more psychologically soundness than the average troop.

Yea but sometimes slip through the cracks.

Definitely not - no "sniper" totally misses a standing-still man-size target at only 150 yds., as happened in one of the attacks!

How good are the Washington "snipers," really?

Got that right and look at Ft Bragg in the recent past....not anything that hasn't been seen before there is no code except the personal code.

Well he's running an 80% kill ratio...sounds pretty good to me and if he were some wacko I think that he would have been caught by now....or maybe he is making the shots from a long way off.....and that's why no one if the area sees anything....and if he were a wacko there would be more to his pattern.....he made 3 kills in the space of 45 minutes the first day......and has no "specified demographic" target. And 300 hundred yards is still a good piece of terrain.

I think that quite possibly this is an environmental wack job who is hitting the ENEMY (Americans going about buying gas, shopping, attending govt schools etc)using a tool which he abhors, and that the directions to the beltway found at the last shooting in Fredericksburg is just a diversion to make us believe he lives in Maryland when he probably has been visiting DC from a great distance. They were blocking the roads going back into DC, what if he lives in Richmond?

I agree. 150 yards with a scope shouldn't be all that difficult for a reasonably good hunter--even a head shot.

(On the other hand, a lot of hunters probably aren't good enough riflemen to do it.)

It does not take specialized military training to do what he has done. 300 yards may seem like a long shot to some, but hunters in the mountains take down elk from farther away than that.

If he were military, then an 80% kill ratio would mean that 20% of his enemies would have lived to see where he was shooting from. Not good enough!

I'm sorry that I called him a whacko. My mistake- I guess that its normal for gun toting citizens to run around shooting people and refering to themselves as God.

I have had specialized training and he is not acting like someone who has been trained to be a sniper.
