Aww shucks...thanks so much...really wish I could make that. Actually we aren't even getting to Penn Station until 10 in the morning ON New Years Eve.

Well, Tavern on the Green will be fine if you want to hang out with all the other out-of-towners.
I lived there for 30 years, I will put my mind to it and freepmail you some ideas.

Hubby and I made the foolish mistake of listening to Rush and went to Patsy's this past friday night. SERVICE WAS HORRIBLE, I am sure they kiss Rush's a** though. Food was so-so and the jerk waitor asked if we wanted cheese on our pasta and just throw a whole tablespoon on it RUINING IT. When we got there I told the host it was our 11th wedding anniversary and he couldnt care less. I must give the place a D and I eat in the city quite a bit. From now on when we want Italian food we will go to a more obscure place. Was the worst part of our weekend in NYC.

Well, don't know exactly that it would be a shining example, but my goal in life is to eat my way through NYC Zagat's, so maybe I could offer some help.
Hope you're well.

Great JAP steakhouse: Otabe
68 E. 56th St. (bet. Madison & Park Aves.) New York, NY,
10022-3203 (212) 223-7575
ZAGAT: Split-personality Midtown Japanese offering "restful" dining up- front and a "fun" teppan grill in the rear reminiscent of a "deluxe Benihana"; despite high marks all-around, it has never developed much of a following - perhaps the "high" prices are the reason.
NNY:Sit in back with a grill!
"Cheap" good sushi:Kiiroi-Hana
West 50s 23 W. 56th St. (bet. 5th & 6th Aves.) New York, NY, 10019-3902 (212) 582-7499
ZAGAT: "Steady Midtown Japanese option" for "tasty sushi" at "very fair prices"; though "dreary decor" and "impersonal service" detract, it supplies a "solid business lunch" for nearby wage slaves.

Nobu is awesome! I Big time recommend it.

Walk over to Second and Third Avenues in the mid-town area and cruise up and down the avenues. Follow your nose and your instincts. Non-famous, lots and lots of wonderful restaurants. For famous, Spark's Steakhouse is supposed to be tops. On Saturday or Sunday morning, go down to the Orchard Street area (by cab; drivers will know) and enjoy Jewish food at Russ Daughters, Guss Pickles, and Henry's or Katz's Delicatessens.

if you get a chance go to the cloisters in upper manhattan. it has the most gorgeous christmas tree and authentic music from the middle ages. it's truly one of the most magical places in NYC....it's a journey back in time.

Nobu is simply awesome. If you can get a reservation, order the "omikase"-- it's not on the menu, but it's the chef's tasting menu.
For pure sushi, a great place is Sushiden. Actually, there are two, one on East 49th and one on West 49th.

Have you been to the light show at Bronx Zoo? We are considering taking the kids on Christmas night and would love a review of it.

You don't need travel advice, you need a psychiatrist! NYC is populated exclusively by homosexuals, hookers, drug addicts, and perverts. Taking your sister??? You should be put in jail for child endangerment!
Tavern on the Green??? Tourist trap. A dollar would be too much to eat at that dump!
Look, do yourself (and your innocent sister) a favor. Book yourself a room at the Woodstock Inn in Vermont, sit by the roaring fire sipping a single malt scotch, dine in their incomprable main room, and watch the stars twinkle the New Year in.
But if you go to NYC be sure to take a 3 hour hot as hell shower when you get back to wash the filth and degradation off you.

I am glad you told me of your Patsy experience. I have'nt been there yet.

,,, yeah, I'm in good order. Thanx for asking. I'm looking forward to summer. Speaking of NY, is there still a place called McSorelly's (spelling?) Ale House [or Bar] on 7th?
All the best from Wellington!

IMO.

That's why they call it "gallows humor"..... You're right. And having been a volunteer firefighter I usually enjoy gallows humor. I reacted too fast to your post.
