With four weeks to go before the election, the race for governor is almost too close to call, according to an exclusive News10/SurveyUSA poll.
The poll revealed that Gov. Gray Davis is holding a seven point lead over Republican Bill Simon, 44 to 37 percent. The margin between the two candidates has shrunk in the last two weeks. In a survey conducted on September 21, Davis led Simon by 12 points, 47 to 35 percent.
In the most recent poll, two third-party candidates accounted for another 12 percent of the vote. Green Party candidate Peter Camejo has eight percent of the vote, while Libertarin Gary Copeland has 4 percent. Six percent of those surveyed were undecided.
Davis is strongest in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area, while Simon's greatest support is in the Central Valley.
A total of 576 likely voters were surveyed for the poll on October 5 and 6. The poll has a margin of error of 4.2 percent.

This race is over. Dems are going to sweep every statewide office and may even assume 2/3 control of the state legislature.
I hope I'm wrong, I really do.

For Simon to win, the third-party candidates have to get approx 18% of the votes and Simon needs to get over 40% of the votes on election day.

This poll was before the, "Gee lets start releasing bogus photos" campaign move. Riordan would have b!tchslapped Davis all over the state.

Riordan had no chance to beat Davis.

I hope I'm wrong, I really do. Then why come on here and help out Gray Davis?

Whenever an incumbent has less than 50%, he/she's in trouble. Especially in a state like CA where the Green Party is so active.
Gray-Out's team is going apoplectic over this photo--they're looking like whiney, out of control toddlers. Simon is staying calm and remaining above the fray.
There are rumors that there are more shoes to drop about Gray-Out and his fund-raising.
The most ironic twist about the photo is that there was a poll in which people were asked whether they thought the picture was one of Davis taking contributions in his office and a majority replied in the affirmative, even after Gray-Out had denied it.

Even if Riordan could have won (which I think is not true), what would be the point? Just to have the "Republican" label on an equally liberal governor?
This isn't the U.S. Senate, where you need more guys on your team.

Coop, Grayout still below 45. Stuck in the mud like the pig he is. I know the latest fiasco isn't going to help Simon but it won't get sheeple to vote for Davis either. This one is in no way over. As to all of the naysayers slamming Simon, what a bunch of quitters. They remind me of Toricelli...

"I hope I'm wrong, I really do."You are as to Simon. He is still going to win. As to the rest of the candidates, *sigh*

If the Republicans cannot beat Davis, arguably the weakest and most dispised governor in California history, then the republican party of California needs to just fold up its tent and go home....
