Don't kid yourself--ALL man-glorifying (God-rejecting) utopias are destined to be coercive in nature, whether they call themselves communist, libertarian, or something else.

Christianity doesn't work as a foundation for society because the only people that truly define a nation are its intellectuals. Christianity is only effective for controlling the average joe, not inspiring its elites who will make the scientific and artistic advancements necessary for its growth. The majority of technical and artistic people I've encountered are most definitely NOT Christians.

OH NO TECHNOLOGY BAD IT'S EVIL IT LEADS PEOPLE TO THE DEVIL BECAUSE IT MAKES MIRACLEWORKERS OUT OF MEN!!! Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic to paraphrase Arthur C. Clark.

Supposedly, all Congress has to do is the use of troops, not officially declare war. It may sound like a change in the Constitution, but it's been like that since the beginning of the Republic, though we didn't admit it. Johnson and Nixon got much grief for not having declared war, but Adams's and Jefferson's quasi-wars and punitive expeditions were also not accompanied by formal declarations of war.

Whether or not we ought to go to war is another question. John McLaughlin's last prediction on his show was that there will be no war with Iraq. Just wondering if he knows something the rest of us don't ...

Or one of Bush's accountants realizing that his fiscal irresponsibility on social programs will help further damage the US economy as more and more money is taken out to pay for government largesse for the working class.

Well, then youu and I are not too far apart in our beliefs... However, for me, the NUMBER ONE issue for the federal government to deal with is DEFENSE... anything else, is debatable...

I support president Bush and the War On Terror... I may not agree with anything or everything else he does, but when it comes to the defense of this nation, he has my full 100% support when he's doing the right thing... even if it means striking first in some instances...

Bush said we were going after terrorists...sadam is a terrorist. that's all there is to it. besides i trust bush more than i trust congress.

When somebody thinks Big Stupid Government is doing what they want at any particular moment, "niceties" like the Constitution (the damn LAW that regulates Big Stupid Government) never seem to matter much, do they?

Only people like Ron Paul seem to have memory of and respect for the founding principles of this country.

This is the law, if Ron Paul doesn't like it, he should attempt to change it or challege it in the courts since I presume he has standing to do so.

He has standing as a member of the House and this affects Congressman. So maybe he doesn't even believe he has a case, why else not try to challenge the War Powers Act.

Libertarians have much to offer on domestic issues, but they are an absolute danger to the nation on foreign affairs!

I agree on both counts.

Wheres the danger?

11.0 DEFENSE

11.1 U. S. military should be deployed only where there is a clear threat to vital U. S. interests and only with the consent of the U. S. Congress.
11.2 It is the duty of the federal government to provide a system to defend against missile attacks.
11.3 No branch of the military should be put in harm's way without a clear entrance and exit strategy and a goal, which when achieved, constitutes victory.
11.4 U. S military personnel should always be under U. S. command.
11.5 U. S. armed forces should be all-volunteer.
11.6 Military draft registration should be eliminated.
11.7 Foreign aid is often more harmful than helpful and should be curtailed.

Libertarians have a more or less utopian view on foreign affairs, the concept of "open borders" being one result of that view.

If you listened to public Libertarian after 9-11, you got an earful of this view. Most resort to an interesting alternate history to justify their point of view. Almost any speech on foreign affairs by Ron Paul would be enough to illustrate the danger.
