Curfew still in effect from 7 am to 7 pm. Few stores are open, yet. Rolling electricy blackouts, two hours on and three hours off, and not reliable even to the schedule.
My brother was finally able to get to Lowes to buy and install a new back door which was blown out. His wife is afraid of lizards which are swarming over the house. So far, they have not found any snakes. His wife is going nuts to get a Dr Pepper, but cannot find one, even though Coke has sent "care packages" of their product. They turn on the AC (hot in south Louisiana) when the power is on and sleep then when it is comfortable. When it gets hot again from power outage, the work to restore their home.
I am just posting this to remind people that just because the news reporters have left, disappointed to not find a a cat 4 to cover, that the aftermath is horrible.
I asked my family tonight, that if they had to make the decision to stay and ride the hurricane out, if they would do it again.....they said NO, never again.
How right you are! There are still thousands of residents without electricity and the streets are lined from one end to the other with limbs and debris. It'll be a month or more before most of the visible signs of Lili will be taken care of. Lots of folks also are getting hit in the paycheck while the places they work are closed due to damages or power outage. The news likes the high impact stuff but fails for the most part in describing the overall effects that a hurricane has on a given area. Those who have been through these storms know full well just how miserable the aftermath can be.
