Good question: If a kid came up from Jamaica or Trinadad and enrolled, would they be excluded? A friend of mine is a US citizen from Liberia, and his daughter came over, wearing the Dreadlock style, entered school,no one said a word.she didn't bother anyone, they left her alone.

So what if it's a " government school " ? There are rules for how you can mail a letter ( government rules ! ) and rules on roads ( government rules ) and rules and rules and rules and rules and rules about using all sorts of things ... government run and not. The parent /s of this girl knew or rather, should have known, what the rules are and they did nothing to enforce them. They abrogated their parental rights, so the school took over.
This child was all of 14 , when she decided to make dreads out of her hair. She could just as easily cut it chin length and died it dark brown; she just wanted a change. She's a C/D student. Obviously, education doesn't mean all THAT much to her.
You just don't like authority of any kind. Rules made to be broken, as far as you're concerned ? That isn't " conservative " !

Did you actually READ this article ? There is a school handbook. She had read it. She ignored the rules. She wore a hat. That wasn't allowed. When she was told to remove the hat, the dreads showed. Two rules ; two broken rules. She was NOT the only one told to change her hair style. Reread the article.

She's a C/D student. Obviously, education doesn't mean all THAT much to her. And yet, at 14, she doesn't have the option of quitting. Aren't state mandates great?

No. Its Supporting the public schools that isn't "conservative."

She was NOT the only one told to change her hair style. As a 14 year old girl, SHE DOES NOT HAVE THE OPTION of not attending. PUBLIC SCHOOL attendence is COMPULSORY!!! It's not like she FREELY ACCEPTED any rules or terms to begin with. The STATE decides that you MUST ATTEND, and WHERE you will attend.
