dehydrated mummy...

That's exactly right. It hadn't dawned on me but I knew it reminded me of something. Heartbreaking.

Children and pets are not the same thing.

They are when it comes to starving them or treating them cruelly.

This quote you had in italics
Perhaps I'm too optimistic, but I don't think this kind of lawsuit stands a chance.

Where did that come from and what has it to do with this? I'm not sure I understand your post...

"That's the thing about WASPS. They love animals, but they hate people." --- Gordon Gekko.

I think it is more correct to say:

"That's the thing about WASPS. They hate people who don't love animals."

Uhh. No.

Let's say I starve a child to death. What should be my minimum sentence?

Now, let's say I starve my pet spider to death. Do I get the same minimum sentence?

I don't think so. If you have something to add to that equation... I'm all ears.

I disagree ...pets should not be property unless you have them registered as livestock. Property insinuates you can do what you want with them.....getting them off on many cruel things they do....I hope it continues to change in the direction of 'guardian'.

Welfare payments!!

It's a scam the demented run on the welfare system. The more kids you have, the more money you get.

My grandchild's mother had a baby every 2 years, to keep from going to work. She now has 6 children with 3 different fathers - although she is minus 1 because our family went to court and took her away from the mother. The court appointed family members to be her guardians. Yesterday was her 11th birthday. She's thriving - loves God, and God continually blesses her.

You have now managed to turn a very serious story into a mushy waste of time. I guess I'll move on to a more interesting topic.

Yes and unfortunately freerepublic has become full of sickos like that. Too bad, used to be a good website but way too many wackos on here now.

They need to be reminded that this is not FreeAnarchy.com or FreeDope.com or FreeToDoEvil.com or FreeFromCops.com

Both should be jail time...I didn't say they were equal in jail time....depending on the crime of course... more for a kid...less for an animal. Both are felonies...and should not be tolerated. Be aware that animal cruelty is one step closer to human cruelty.

So let me get this straight. You say, if I starve my pet insect or spider to death, I should get jail time for that? What about if I just stomp on it? Is that a felony too?

I think it is more correct to say:

I think it's pretty on-target just the way it is.

Well, CJ, it's true. It's wrong of us to be morally outraged over someone else's lifestyle choice or the way they decide to treat their children. After all, we don't know what kind of childhood this woman and her boyfriend have had. It's not right of us to make judgement calls on someone else, especially when we base them on what is simply a socially accepted standard. Worse yet would be to impose punishment on this woman for what we would consider mistreatment of a child. It wasn't my child or your child, so who are we to determine what is the proper way to feed (or for that matter, discipline) that child.

Blech - excuse me while I go wash my mouth out with soap.

Does it matter? Do you get more time for killing a black widow or a tarantula?

Just think how much worse off she'll be under the care of "the government", constantly having Happy Meals shoved down her throat.

Oh, the horror!

Depends. Is the tarantula a native species, or did you purchase an imported one? If it's imported, is it in the country legally or illegally? You're opening up a whole new can of worms - and worms are a completely different story.
