Those three things are my few issues at this time. Just yesterday I would have said NO sniper rifles and then a hunter pointed out that is what most hunter use, so that made good sense, I change my position as I did above to that issue."
I see we have another Gun Control Inc. person on the board. The kind with which one will go round and round and round with and never dent the argument ( i.e. once the end of the record is reached, the needle is put back at the beginning and the same song is played over again ).
For the purposes of the studio audience, and the millions on the Internet, please humor me with some answers:
1. What is an 'armor piercing round'? And to make it easy, please narrow the question to the type of ammo that caused the ruckus in the first place ( There are actually two answers one could use. One of them is not quite correct and is related to pistol rounds. ).
2. Which rifles and calibers, exactly, would you wish to restrict access to?
3. What was the purpose for including the 2nd amendment in the Constitution ( the state's rights to maintain militias is a canard that is incorrect. One need only go to the Federalist Papers and the Constitutional Convention debates to find the answer )?
4. Do you know what the term 'prior restraint' means? Is it legal or not in the case of firearms ownership?
5. How many rifles have been involved in crimes in the past year ( or, pick any year. Please use a source to back up your assertion, like FBI crime statistics. )?
6. Do you fear guns, or the people that own them? Why?
7. Which areas of the country ( USA )would see a correlation between the restriction ( read: infringement ) of the right to bear arms and the crime rate? Did this rate increase or decrease? ( note: Correlation does not mean causation. )
I've had my CCW (FL.) for a few months now. It's a great feeling. A copy of my military I.D. sufficed for the training requirement. I carry a full-size 1911 just under my right kidney with no problems. An Uncle Mike's Kydex paddle holster is the scabbard choice, and it, coupled with a jacket (or loud Hawaiian shirt, untucked) works great.
I get tired of beating my head against the wall, too. But if we quit, THEY'LL be the only ones talking(lying). We have to get our side out, and tell the truth, or they'll win for sure. It is a pain, to have to tell the same story over and over, but look at it this way - doing that very thing saved us a "President" Gore. That ALONE was worth all the teaching.
Why does this matter? A person who is inexperienced won't be a threat, even if they have one. It is mostly skill, not equipment; which particular rifle a person has almost falls below the noise floor for all intents and purposes if you are trying to do a threat assessment. A person with skill can easily be a very effective and deadly sniper with a century old rifle, they don't need any of these spiffy toys. Look at the history of the world's most famous snipers. Virtually all of them used rifles that are poorer in quality than the rifles on the cheapo beater rack at the local gun shop. The people were what was fabulously good, not the gear.
It is the dangerous position of blaming the hardware and ignoring the actions of the people using it. This position very rarely results in rational outcomes.
Anyone ever tell you what a good picture you take?-)
