I already received an answer from COB1 on what causes a person to get the top of their thumb sliced by a semi-auto pistol. It can happen by anyone holding any pistol, with a slide, wrong, not just Glocks. See post 417.
A friend told me that one person held his thumb straight up and it was broken so bad that it peeled back. Another held a semi like a rifle and the slide broke his cheekbone.
