It, like the Ten Commandments, worked to end blood fueds. An eye for an eye, though seemingly harsh to us, was a major improvement. It might actually be an improvement over what we have now.

I particularly like the false accusation punishment.

All I know is when I was standing next to this code in The Louvre, I couldn’t believe it. Most impressive thing I’ve ever seen in a museum, and people were walking by it as though it were no big deal.
