Vice President Dick Cheney laid out the White House's case for pre-emptive action against Iraq on August 26, 2002, citing mortal danger to the U.S. and labeling critics as guilty of "willful blindness." Cheney used a gathering of the Veterans of Foreign Wars to reject fears that such action would undermine the global U.S. war on terrorism and mark a radical new departure for American foreign policy. Cheney is seen speaking in Washington in this April 17 file photo. (William Philpott/Reuters) - Aug 26 6:15 PM ET |

I am another- proud of our President and his team....the
naysayers are intent on stopping every initiative that
comes up..especially 80% of the daily political pundits(TV)
and newspapers too numerous to mention....Am hoping for
a return to Senate for the sake of the country's progress..
War on terrorists is ongoing, thanks to Bush and company..
our continued support is needed....Jake

Had to flip channels tonight to see the reaction to Cheneys speech,NBC's Campbill Brown said the President believes he can order an attack ,not the fact that the law is on his side. I'm tired of all this infighting,if Saddam is connected with the terrorist attackes HE MUST GO, FALL ELECTIONS BE DAMNED.

Thanks for the ping my friend,
I listened to this speech today and Vice President Cheney certainly made the case for a pre-emptive strike against Iraq. The hand wringers and wishful thinking Iraq sympathizers <----(Scott Ritter) are a dangerous bunch if you ask me.
God Bless our President and his Administration

Thanks for the ping. It's going to happen and I'm glad. Today I was on another thread about where we all were on 9/11. From there I began going back through old 9/11 threads so I could stoke my anger a bit. We must never again sit idly by when we know we are in somebody's crosshairs. Thank God Bush and Cheney feel the same way.

And it is my great honor to serve with a commander in chief every soldier and every veteran can be proud of - President George W. Bush. (Applause.) Now, ain't that the truth? As usual, Cheney nails it.
Thanks for the ping, ohio!

CBS brought up an interesting point. Bush's lawyer wrote a letter explaining why he could act without Congress and it is a strong case. If they can show he is involved with terrorism, Bush can do pretty much anything he wants.

He meaning Saddam in my last post.

I am hoping the 9-11 anniversary will wake folks back up a bit so they remember not to vote Democrat in the fall, but I won't hold my breath.

I am familiar with the arguments against taking action in the case of Saddam Hussein. Some concede that Saddam is evil, power-hungry, and a menace -- but that, until he crosses the threshold of actually possessing nuclear weapons, we should rule out any preemptive action.Yeah, let's wait until Saddam actually possesses nuclear weapons before we strike. What idiots the peaceniks are!
Dick Cheney -- what a man! Too bad the man's got a bad ticker; he'd make an excellent president after GWB's two terms.
Thanks for the ping, OWF!

The case has been made for war now.
Quite frankly, it's compelling.
Time to kick butt and take names.

You know, it is amazing how all this stuff is in the media, and yet the anti-war people keep saying that the President hasn't made the case.
Apparently, the "case" is a video of Saddam personally ordering 9/11. Other than that, they refuse to see any problem with him.
Cheney is, as the President told us, a wonderful Vice President.
