I have been on a few rabbit trails checking out the map since you posted that. My father's family hails from Eastern KY where his father was a coal miner. He never went back after he was discharged from the Army, but I still have kin back there in Louisa, Ashland and Paintsville.

I know I have a Texas drawl, but I sound downright citified compared to my kin in KY! A couple of expressions that always intrigued me were "hit" for "it" and "hain't" for "ain't." On one of our trips when was about 8ish, I decided I wanted to "fit in." A carload of us were riding around looking at the sites. I saw a pretty scene and exclaimed "Hit's purty, hain't hit?" Daddy about wrecked the car and Mother got a mild case of whiplash! I never heard the end of it!

LOL...that is too funny. Louisa, Ashville and Paintsville are just a hop, skip & jump from where I live. About an hour to hour and a half. We have a friend who lives in Louisa. You have some good old family roots there. You might be interested to know that a "haint" (noun) is also a ghost.
