They can't even mention Simon's name in the headline themselves.
So Mr. Bush's initial omission of Mr. Simon's name was highly conspicuous, and it came after days of rumors that Mr. Bush had only committed himself to go to California because he had no choice politically.
Bush didn't mention Simon at the Stockton Memorial Auditorium because it wasn't a political event. He split the cost of the trip with between his campaign funds and his government funds because he was giving a POLICY speech at the Auditorium. If he had mentioned Simon, his campaign would have had to pay for the whole trip!
I HATE THE LIBERAL MEDIA!!!!!!!!!

The article is truly disgusting and the NYT does this all the time. Simon has nothing but problems. Bush's fight against corporate corruption hurts Simon. Simon faced the worst kind of embarrassment (even though the lawsuit had nothing to do with him). Meanwhile, Davis, who is incompetent and up to his eyeballs in scandal, is a political genius combatting corporate bad guys. Really sickening coverage by a supposedly world class paper.

The Gray Lady can't resist poking an elbow in the President's ribs. More like: "All The DNC Press Releases That Are Fit To Print."

I don't think your average liberal reporter can pen a story this awful and devious. Carville must be ghost writing or holding seminars.

This is pretty bad but their best efforts are when they run headlines and articles claiming a Republican candidate is in trouble and then, maybe, toward the end they mention "To be sure,Mr. [Fill in any Republican with a 20 or more point lead] leads by a wide margin in most polls, but...."

Irregardless, unless the NYTimes just made up this story, it is astonishing. Cheney mentions Simon only once? Bush doesn't mention Simon and he's there to meet him at the plane? The potential governor of the most populous state in the country is there to welcome you and there is not a word said? I don't know how many of these campaign things you have ever been to, but if it was Clinton, or Reagan, there would have been effusive praise for your parties candidate. Do you have some proof that this story is false? I think GW is running away from Simon as quick as he can.

Try dealing with their komrades here in L.A.
Every Gray Skies story is buried in the B section. Every Simon speculation makes A1.
(Actually, this shows me that they're worried and must work extra hard to indoctrinate the poor dumb slobs that still think the Slimes is a newspaper.)

Did you catch this part of the article?:
The president did have kind words for Mr. Simon at a fund-raising luncheon later, referring to him as "the next governor of the state of California."
Mr. Bush described Mr. Simon as a proven businessman who could work with people of various backgrounds to make life better for his constituents. "You need somebody in Sacramento who's got that kind of attitude, somebody who's willing to put aside all the typical old-style politics to bring a breath of fresh air, to bring new life into a stagnant situation," Mr. Bush said. "And the answer for the breath of fresh air for Sacramento, Calif., is Bill Simon."

Simon is a disaster as a candidate. His company was just found liable in a corporate fraud case---how friggen great. This will get beaten over his head like a steel drum.

Bush Takes Awhile to Mention Candidate He Went to Aid Well, now I've seen it all.
The New York Times is actually willing to push their agenda by headlining how long it took Bush to mention someone's name.
Soon they'll be willing to use any insignificant conservative behaviors to drive home their leftist talking points.
Look for these Times headlines coming soon:

Brief Pauses in Rumsfeld Speech Show Terror War Failing
Ashcroft Clears Throat: No Hope For X-Ray Detainees

What makes you think the NYT is telling the truth? If we had to go by the news as filtered by liberals we'd all be living in a liberal world. Ask yourself why you're still a conservative after hearing liberal bilge spewed at you 24 hours a day. The media of course would love to see GrayDown get reelected. It doesn't help matters there are some on FR who would rather aid the enemy by abandoning the cause than by getting in the foxhole while our side's under fire and holding out to the last man. If we had your philosophy in Ia Drang Valley in the Vietnam Central Highlands in 1965, the 7th Calvary would have been massacred. All I can say to President Bush and Bill Simon is: "Go Owen Garry!!!"
To: Azrael
It was a civil suit between partners and had nothing to do with Simon. Meanwhile, Davis is directly a disaster as governor. The press is just trying to make it look like Simon is a tragedy that everyone is running from, and they are spinning Bush's visit to him that way. It is August, not October and a bit early to decide one campaign or the other is defunct. There is no similar coverage of Toricelli, and he personally took contributors out to pay for his shopping sprees.
