Our forefathers pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor. Many of them paid a very steep price. Dare we do less? I agree. The Susan B. Anthony quote was in reference to your previous post wherein you mentioned that people will follow the leader because they feel that they will be safe in doing so ... but as you said, each of us has to look at the challenge as one that might demand our own sacrifice ... we can't be willing to let someone else do it for us. "Cautious, careful people ... can never affect a reform."
With regard to re-instituting the mindset that we are a republic as opposed to a democracy, we have our work cut out for us. As you have said, this democratic mindset has been institutionalized, and it will take great effort to reverse that slide.
My favorite quote on democray and liberty is from Franklin, "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch ... Liberty is a well armed lamb contesting the vote."
Stay armed ... don't get eaten.

So are you saying Al Gore really won?

"Republic = good. Anarchy = bad. Anarchy ends up meaning the strong can rule the weak. I don't think anyone wants that, do they? "
All situations depend on the basic morality of Man.
It is a tough choice but, given that choice that I'd rather be ruled by a strong man who can be removed by sheer strength of nnumbers, than a mob against which you don't stand a prayer.
Remember, our forefathers went up against the most powerful military on earth and won.
Our early West handled the bad guys by force of numbers called a posse. At no time did they allow a dictitorial strong man to take over, though they were "ripe" for just such an imposition on their liberty.
I think the reasoning power of Free men and their courage and determinination to remain free is more powerful than any possible senario that can follow from lack of government.
Governments can only sell you. or provide you with retribution after the fact. Government cannot and never has been able to protect from a predator. Only armed Free Men can do that.

"Snide"? You always piss on your neighbors lawn?
To: Badray
No you are not wrong with one exceptiion.
The senate has to agree with what the house passes in order for it to take affect, thereby protecting our countries best interest.

It depends on how you look at it.
In view of President Bush's recent actions it is obvious Al Gore's philosophy won

You have a lot more faith in mankind than I do. Without laws and a government to enforce those laws, I can see all kinds of evil being played out against the weak. And, under anarchy, I doubt very much if the strong man who rules the weak man is going to be benevolent about it.

Man, if left to his own devices, will always move in the direction of self-serving sin.

So, what you are saying is that I (me) knew what you meant when I read it, I just didn't know that I knew it. LOL

In accordance with your words mean something please allow me to correct just one thing
The United States of America is a republic = good.
Grammatically, it should be these United States of America are republics. America is within a prepositional phrase and NOT the subject of the sentence. 'States' is the subject. Would you accept someone saying 'the classes of Mr. Jones is good'?
However to do that would admit that we are a collective of states with separate, equal, and sovereign powers, something the Federalists cannot allow.
Just another rant from one of your friendly Anti-Federalists

Just remember one thing Joe. No matter how good a quarterback plays on Sunday, on Monday every idiot in America could have done it better.
To: AppyPappy
You can believe that.
I believe when man acts in his own best intest, it is in the best interest of all.

..prescription drug plan (soon), patients bill of rights (soon), steel tarrifs, amnesty for illegals, extenstion of unemployment benefits....
However, give credit where credit is due. The President has done a fine job of thumbing his nose at the United Nations.
