Texas fact: The first Declaration of Independence of the State of Texas was written and signed April 6, 1813, by a group of American filibusters called the American Volunteers and led by Samuel Kemper.
This happened at a place which was destined to become a rallying cry of Texans for generations - the Alamo.
After a running battle with the Spanish army, the force of 850 American volunteers were surrounded at the Medina River.
In the same spirit of those who came after, they refused surrender or retreat.
Only 93 escaped death by eventually making their way across the Medina.

Congrats from a fellow Texan! Born raised in Magnolia, just north of Houston. Transplanted at the moment in MS. I have enjoyed your posts and am so glad you included Ming! Have a wonderful day over there and enjoy all the kudos...

Hey Mudboy - she is 2 weeks old and sweet as honey! I love being a daddy already. Cheerleading, horses, dirtbikes, surfing, soccer...man I want her to do it all. I have so many plans for this little baby.
The other day she was crying and I started singing some tunes, but she cried worse! I played a few tunes on the guitar (I'm a hack on the 6-string), but she kept crying. Maybe I'll stick to lyrics, Mudboy - I'll just have to wait until she can read!
I'm glad you are enjoying your 7-year old. I'm sure she is daddy's girl. I think our true test will be the teen years and the big "D" (dating)! < /Gasp!>

LOL! Hi, watts! YOUR picture looks familiar! That wolf used to hang out here a lot - he disappeared yesterday and we haven't seen him since though. :)

The community of Seguin was established in 1838 by members of Mathew Caldwell's Gonzales Rangers, but was not incorporated until 1853. It was originally called Walnut Springs for the nearby fresh water sources. Just six months later the name was changed to honor Colonel Juan N. Seguin, one of Sam Houston's ablest Lieutenants throughout the struggle for Texas' independence. As leader of a dedicated group of Texans of Mexican ancestry, Col. Seguin participated in the great victory at San Jacinto. Later he served as a Republic of Texas Senator and as Mayor of San Antonio.
A great place from which to hail.

I was kidding about stopping them, but hadn't thought about using the 'stop' on my browser to stop the animation. Actually, it's the crazy way they turn and bounce around that's so neat!
