I don't think that BORTAC has to field that many people. All Border Patrol Agents know where their problem areas are. They know where shootings are most likely to occur. If BORTAC were to create an ambush in those areas and lay waste to the Mexican military after they shot at agents, there would not be any more problems. Many Border Patrol Sectors have their own tactical teams, besides BORTAC which is a national asset. I don't think anyone managing the Border Patrol wants to weather the political fallout from ambushing and killing Mexican military thugs no matter how justified.

As far as the illegals go, I really don't think the military is the answer. The same people that are preventing the INS/Border Patrol from doing their jobs are the same people controlling the military. I believe we should let the Border Patrol do what they are supposed to do. Instead of sending them to elementary schools to read to students, they should return to doing city patrol. Instead of making Border Patrol Agents drive in the opposite direction of load vehicles that fail to yield they should continue to pursue if conditions permit. Instead of using valuable manpower for search and rescue units, more specialized enforcement units should be created.
