What would you have done on flight 93?

The people on Flight 93 all had concrete proof that they were going to die anyway, unless they manged to incapacitate or kill all the terrorists. That changes the equation a bit.

if their 'boyfriends' had had any balls at all for fighting back, it would not have happened.

Blah, blah, blah. You have no way of knowing that. According to the cops, this creep wasn't going to be taken by them alive. That's why he was given a lethal injection of lead.

Presuming for a moment that the boyfriends made no attempt to resist (as you seem to be doing), if they had done so in a manner that endangered a violent man with a gun, he might well have decided not to leave any witnesses, and we would be talking about four dead teens instead of one dead scumbag.

The reference to an "Arnie movie" means those Arnold Schwarzenegger flicks where he is an unstoppable killing machine even in impossible circumstances. That's the big diff between fantasy and reality, and saying "it would not have happened" is nothing but fantasy.

Bravo, well said! This forum has been degrading of late and it started with the Van Dam kidnapping and murder. It seems to have gone downhill rapidly. I was also appalled at some comments about the Samatha Runnion family during her funeral. I may have to reconsider my membership.

And don't you DARE accuse the girls of being in a place where they shouldn't be, therefore, laying the blame on THEM. Yeah, it WAS late at night....and some of you WERE good kids and didn't do anything wrong...and I'm really proud of you, but doggone it. Kids SHOULD be allowed to be kids without this crap happening. Do I advocate pre-marital sex? Heck no. Do I advocate being out that late at night, so far from home? No! Will I blame them, or their parents? NO!!!!

I don't understand--why does questioning their being out so late and engaging in questionable moral behavior have to do with blaming them for the attack--are you reading too much into what people are posting?

Really? Where was it used?

Same area as the the highway signs were used. Sending out an EBS alert (or EAS or whatever it's called these days) over the local radio and TV stations is an inherent part of the Amber Alert system.

Ooops! Bad parallel, dude. How many survivors were there on Flight 93?

Oh, just go back and read the thread for yourself. I assume you're old enough to understand what I'm talking about, raising kids, etc. People DID imply that, and if you started at the beginning of this thread like I did, you'll see for yourself.

If not, I apologize.

When somebody says, "I just want to duct tape you up", that is code for I want my killing of you to be easier.

If I had the clarity of mind in that stressful a situation, that line of reasoning would be my inclination as well.

I pray I'm never put in a situation that I have to prove it.

Two girls, 16 and 17, out at lovers lane at 1:00am? Are there any parents?

This is exactly what I have been screaming at my TV. Are there any parents acting like parents any more? What on earth were these girls doing out so late?? And I imagine their "boyfriends" didn't take any risks to attempt to save them either. It's all very sad.

What if, under the circumstances, the best mode of resistance was for the guy to run, with his cell-phone, and dial 911? This is highly likely if you consider that a 16-year-old would be unable to physically disarm, let alone disable, this hardened, determined and perhaps drug-fueled criminal?

If in fact such a teenager had to decide between flight or compliance, upon threat to his date, which is the more manly course and which would subject him to more of this second-guessing?

I've never been in that situation, so I don't know how I would react. Long ago, I had a friend who was in this situation. He let himself be tied up, because he thought he was saving his girl's life. Luckily, he was able to break the rope and stab the intended rapist. Really, true story.

I would never disparage courage. But, some of these comments sound like daydreams I had when I was 12. Most of the people I've known who have been in combat never talk about it.

Show me where someone said the kids deserved it--while I didn't read every post, I didn't see anyone say that.

As for me, if I felt they deserved it, I would say they deserved it.

Do I believe they were careless? Yes.

Do I believe the parents should have kept a tighter rein? Yes.

Do I believe society should support parents who discipline their children, thereby helping parents to keep their kids under control? Yes.

Do I believe the predator should have been free to roam the streets? No (he probably should have been executed years ago).

I recall a passage from a biography of Genghis Khan I read some years ago, wherein the author related that peace reigned over a vast empire, such that a virgin could ride in complete safety at any hour from one end of the dominion to the other.

I've been here a long time and I would be hard pressed to remember anything as vile as that comment.

Could you give a hint about what this comment was?

That said, there are guys out there who would put their girl before themselves...

I'm not even sure the guys considered these girls to be "their" girls. Judging from the unbelievably nonchalant attitude of that one guy who was videotaped this morning taking his duct tape off, I got the distinct feeling he, at least, was just trying to get off with some girl he considered a piece of meat. (I never saw the other guy, and they hadn't gone to that place together, so who knows what he was up to.) Anyway, if these guys weren't dating the girls, and just screwing around with them, they obviously would be much less likely to put their own lives on the line for them, given the "morals" of 2002.

Does anyone know anything about this place? Is it really a "lovers' lane," or has it devolved into more of a "come here to hook up randomly" site for students of one or more high schools in the area?
