The Bush haters are miserable people. They choose to ignore the consoling hugs, the warm smiles, the integrity, the sincerity and the leadership qualities that are uniting most of us.

Could it be that "hate is blind" too?

Maybe the Bush haters need to find out what's wrong with their lives - hating decent people speaks volumes. Fregards, FV.

Mark Herron will think of something else if it's a landslide.

I know that Herron is lower than pondscum, but in the case of a Jeb landslide, I think his options are completely cut off. If it's close, that's another matter, but that is not likely.

I have a feeling that Reno is going to order recounts in EVERY COUNTY

I have no doubt that your analysis is correct, given Mark Herron's past and the whole Algore fiasco, but if Jeb's margin of victory is large enough, will she have any legal standing to demand a recount?

If she gets beat in a landslide, I hope she does call for a recount. While it might play well to most liberals still bent about Gore losing Florida, most "moderates" are going to think she looks kinda silly.

"Being a Republican Jeb will nominate some Dems or Liberal Repubs so that he can be well thought of. Repubs are a great minority party. They talk real big but don't know what to do when they get in office."

If the past 40 years or so is any indicator, you're absolutely right.

No, you're mistaken. Judge Leander Shaw is not what anyone here would describe as a wonderful judge. It's true that he, like Harding & Wells had 2nd thoughts eventually, but Shaw's no friend of conservatives, no where close! He's very liberal, plain and simple.

I've said before on other threads and I'll say it again. I believe the focus should be on Anstead. Justice Anstead is the most liberal justice on the court currently. He is a kindred spirit of a disasterous former nun, former Justice, Rosemary Barkett. Focus all efforts against kicking him out. Charlie Wells is the most conservative judge the court has seen in quite some time. And, as whoever pointed out what with our gosh-awful nominating system, there's an excellent chance his successor would be more, not less liberal.

Actually, he can pull a loco poco. The JNC submits their nominations-- Gov. Bush can turn them all down, and request a new batch of nominees, however, Raoul Cantero, who is thought to be the favorite, is an appellate lawyer with Adorno & Zeder in Miami and the grandson of former Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista.

Florida lawyers have overwhelmingly recommended the retention of Florida Supreme Court Justice R. Fred Lewis, Justice Barbara J. Pariente and Justice Peggy A. Quince, and the 18 DCA judges up for merit retention on November 7.

The results of The Florida Bar's biennial merit retention judicial poll were announced today by Bar President Herman Russomanno.

"Lawyers are most familiar with the justices and judges and the work they do at the Supreme Court and Appeals Court levels. Therefore, the poll provides important information intended to help citizens make an informed choice in the voting booth," according to Russomanno.

"The Bar poll asked lawyers to consider eight attributes of the justices and judges: quality and clarity of judicial opinions, knowledge of the law, integrity, judicial temperament, impartiality, freedom from bias or prejudice, demeanor, and courtesy," Russomanno said. "Clearly, we have outstanding justices on the Supreme Court and judges in the five District Courts of Appeal."

Poll results indicated that 88 percent of participating lawyers recommended retention of Supreme Court Justice R. Fred Lewis ; 84 percent recommended retention of Justice Barbara J. Pariente ; and 83 percent recommended retention of Justice Peggy A. Quince .

The results of the merit retention poll of lawyers for the First District Court of Appeal show the following percentages of lawyers recommending retention of: Judge Edwin B. Browning, 87 percent; Judge Richard W. Ervin, III, 87 percent; and Judge Peter D. Webster, 87 percent.

Poll results for the Second District Court of Appeal in favor of retention were: Judge John Robert Blue, 86 percent; Judge Darryl C. Casanueva, 88 percent; Judge Charles A. Davis, Jr., 88 percent; Judge Oliver L. Green, 83 percent; Judge Emiliano Jose (E.J.) Salcines, 81 percent; Judge Thomas E. Stringer, Sr., 87 percent; and Judge Edwin F. Threadgill, 88 percent.

In the Third District Court of Appeal , 88 percent of the participating lawyers recommended retaining Judge James R. Jorgenson.

The results of the merit poll of lawyers for the Fourth District Court of Appeal show the following percentages of lawyers recommending retention of: Judge John W. Dell, 89 percent; Judge Bobby W. Gunther, 85 percent; Judge Fred A. Hazouri, 88 percent; Judge Larry A. Klein, 89 percent; Judge Barry J. Stone, 88 percent; and Judge Carole Y. Taylor, 83 percent.

In the Fifth District Court of Appeal , 89 percent of participating lawyers in the poll recommended retaining Judge Emerson R. Thompson, Jr.

In a secret ballot mailed in August to all lawyers residing and practicing in Florida, participants were asked to indicate whether the incumbent judges "should be retained" or "should not be retained" for another six-year term under the merit retention system. Only lawyers who indicated at least limited knowledge of the judge's qualifications were included in the poll results. A total of 5,773 lawyers participated in the statewide poll.

The Florida Bar has published results of its polls as a public service since the first merit retention election in 1978. In merit retention elections the justices and judges run unopposed -- voters cast their ballots to "retain" or "not retain" the judge in office. If the judge is not retained, the office will be filled through the merit selection system through which the governor will appoint one of three nominees selected by the Judicial Nominating Commission.

Interesting information, FV. I can't imagine though how Reno could win. She appears frail and Jeb is popular across the board with voters. (Or at least it appears that way from my end of the country.) I wish you all good luck in FLorida - and pray Nazi Reno does NOT win.

Hey, Dude, this is a conservative website; have you forgetten?

From your insipid post, I assume you would prefer Reno in the Governor' office. Why don't you find a website that more correctly fits your ideology?

It's kangaroo season in Florida. Florida voters have a golden opportunity to remind the SCOF-laws who they work for (or in this case who they will soon nolonger be allowed to ignore.)

A vote for Jeb is a vote for justice (finally)!

GOPAC

FLORIDA: Heartburn in Havana
Governor Jeb Bush this week tapped Raoul G. Cantero III to fill a vacancy on the state's highest court. Cantero, a Miami appellate attorney, becomes the first Hispanic to serve as a justice on the Florida Supreme Court.

The Spanish-born Cantero is the grandson of former Cuban president and dictator Fulgencio Batista, who was overthrown by brutal communist tyrant Fidel Castro in 1959.

Bush called his choice of Cantero proof that "service on our state's highest court is open to men and women of excellence of all backgrounds. His character, humility and judicial philosophy make him perfectly qualified."

The conservative Cantero has handled more than 250 civil and criminal appeals in all five District Courts of Appeal, the Florida Supreme Court, several U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeal and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Bush's appointment is final; it does not require the consent of the legislature.

I stand corrected. I'm getting names confused, perhaps, or maybe it's just that I don't want to remember anything about the 2000 election.

Now this is interesting. I figure that since the recount always passed by the appellate level and headed for the supremes, the courts of appeal must be very bad indeed. Would like info on them too.

But this is a year to consider voting all of the bums out of the courts and the Congress. Especially, my bogus congressman: Alcee Hastings.

I like Bushes though. Jeb should be as brave as W and eliminate the ngo Bar association from obscuring our democratic processes.
