"On the longer horizon there are much bigger things looming in than giving amnesty to a few millions who are ALREADY here."

"Give amnesty and more will flock here. Amnesties ALWAYS are an advertisement for more illegal immigration. Like a flashing neon billboard. And the ones that amnesty get to bring in tons of relatives, wifes and children. And if they think the INS is too slow they bring in their families ILLEGALLY! Wake up."

IMHO, amnesty by itself would not change much these people are ALREADY here, if you oppose it on principle you would have no chance to shape immigration policy for years to come, amnesty is unavoidable evil.

"Your selfishness is costing taxpayers billions. Tell you what, you're not alone in your thinking, there are plenty of Grover Norquist/Bill Bennett/Jack Kemp types out there besides you. When the bill comes for all the expenses to pay for the priviledge of being blessed with massive illegal immigration, we'll send it to you guys. I'm sure you all won't mind paying it, that is unless you're not that selfish."

I suppose granting amnesty to SOME people who are ALREADY here gives a once in life-time chance to reduce immigration (both legal and illegal), so if properly implemented it is a money saving measure - opposing it will cost order of magnitude more. As I said I am a selfish capitalist pig and I am for it because it is a big money saver in the long run, so how about you picking the bill.

"BTW, if you don't think the federal government has plans to enforce interior laws against illegals, you might want to read this recent directive from Ashcroft. It appears that through the use of local and state police departments they intend to do just that. And not a moment too soon."

(1)It seems to me that for the freeper you have too much trust in the government abilities.(2)If Republicans will follow your advise Ashcroft wold be the last Republican AG for generations to come.(3)I would not be surprised that you have "Hillary 2004" on your bumper, your beleif in government closely matches hers.

"Murder for hire and car theft might also be big revenue producing "industries" alex.. But, we outlawed them anyway."

Murder for hire produces peanuts, car teft was $7.8B in 2000.

Oh I see, because I want the government to close the border and enforce immigration laws that means I have hillary bumper stickers on my car. You sir really need to get your head out of the fantasy world you're living in since you are totally unable to understand that amnesty only begets more illegal immigration and rewards lawbreaking.

I don't care if there's a billion of them here with everyone of them ready to vote for the Republicans, I want them out, and so does 80%+ of the population in the country. Live with it.

No it is because, you feel that government can enforce anything working against market forces.

"...I want them out ..."

This is an absolute pipe dream - they are either staying here illegally and are multiplied in uncontrolled manner, or there is going to be some order established.

"...and so does 80%+ of the population in the country. Live with it.

Hey, I want it too, but is simply impossible.

"And your point is?"

The same as before if we have law enforcement working against strong economic interest, economic interest wins.

Hey, I want it too, but is simply impossible.

You've said at least three times now it's impossible to enforce the law. Why is that in your opinion?

So we should only pass laws that you believe are in the economic interest?

I see.

Very gracious of you alex.

"You've said at least three times now it's impossible to enforce the law. Why is that in your opinion?"

IMHO, it is simply given - the Earth is round and prohibitions do not work, there are countless experiments which support both and there are scores of people for whom it is simply unbearable.

He's doing a google search, looking for that Paul Gigot column that explains in detail how illegal Mexican busboys are the backbone of our economy.

Yep, doing otherwise is just an unreasonable waste of valuable resources.

"I see.

Be my guest.

No alex, we pass laws consistant with both the constitution and the will of the populace.

We enforce thosse laws. You can't completely eliminate any behavior by passing a law, be it rape, murder, illegal entry or what have you..

But we can surely make people think twice before doing it.

"Our proposal will bring undocumented immigrants out of the shadows..." (Gephart)

Maybe his proposal is to bring the illegals out of the shadows so they can vote and THEN deport them all?

That would teach them to bite the bait.

Your pathetic argument that "Well, it just can't be done.. passing laws won't stop anyone" is ridiculous on it's face. It's a copout and a transparent one at that.

You set up a false dilema alex, because you don't want the problems solved.

It's that obvious.

I do not want to see RATs running both houses in 2002 and Hillary in the White House come Jan 2005 and all of it for nothing. This is my opinion.

"It's that obvious"

It is obvious in my view, just look back in history on the Prohibition, war on drugs, similar efforts in other countries (e.g. mini-prohibition in Russia during WWI) and Holocaust machinery (Hitler rounded up 11m European Jews you are going to round up 10M illegals, compare favorable conditions he was acting in (1)no opposition from inside, (2)a ton of collaboration, (3)victims were unarmed, (4)letal force was readily applied to suppress any sign of resistance, (5) it was war time and it is still took tremendous resources and years to implement). Get real, it is obvious.

We are not going to have to round up every single illegal alien. If they see the government means business about enforcing the law, many of them will go home on their own. At the very least, it will discourage future illegals from coming in.
