The law of unintended consequences can be a bear. The main reason jail is a destiny most people want to avoid is not because of the three squares a day, it's because of the people who inhabit it. "Deliverance" in a steel cage.

That being said, I do feel sympathy for the young man in question because the unintended consequences were so grave. But the point you make is really unassailable.

And the posters on this site who are claiming the victory is the young man's because he stands to make a lot of settlement money must not understand the difference between the life of a man whose memories are free of rape, and the life of a man whose memories are not. They are morons in the extreme.

I've read something somewhere about a prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment. I guess that must of been in reference to some other nation...
