In early reporting on VD case, did anybody but me see that a backpack and another item (notebook?) of Danielle's were supposedly found in/near her Sabre Springs development, or by the park where a perp leaving with her might have tossed them, or where she if fighting a perp might have discarded them?

YES. We heard about that. It has been so long ago. Seems like either there was no positive ID or (hindsight is 20/20) the VD's didn't ID it because it might prove she ran away after school or from home.

Don't know if it's worth your time to repost it, but you made a classic post listing the necessary elements of a murder case - and the prosecution in this case hasn't met a single one of them. Thanks for your efforts in standing up for decency - this thing has been something else. On "Mr. Dave's Wild Ride", the most horrifying part of it won't be the part where you're sniffed by dogs, or even the part where you're approached by someone in a Brenda mask. The most horrifying part will be where you get flaked. FReegards

No, 185JHP was catching up (from way back) on the threads and tried to explain why TM stomped out of the conversation.

Do you know where the story of shopping at Mervyns came from? Was it leaked by the LE? I'm thinking that Bren may have had that story ready to use if needed. Left Danielle in dressing room and she disappeared. But I guess she was there when the swingers arrived for the evening or they all are covering for the VD's.

The very day after the body was placed on Dehesa, Damon suggested that the searchers come back in closer to San Diego.

Who cares about the distance to the golf course. There is water across the road.

"The body was found in the trees about 100 yards north of the Sweetwater River, across the road from a sand-mining operation in the riverbed.

Dan Marshall, the security guard for nearby Singing Hills Country Club, said the cluster of oaks where the body was found is a common spot to dump trash.

"There's like a little access road in there and people go up there just on the side of Dehesa Road and dump garbage," Marshall said.

Longtime resident Gloria Chadwick described it as a heavily traveled road.

"This is a main thoroughfare," she said. "Transient traffic, not familiar cars, go back and forth. It's not familiar old-timer cars, where you say, 'There goes our neighbor.' We don't know anybody anymore."

She said people using the area as a dump cannot be seen from the road because there is so much brush. Also, the speed limit on the road is 50 mph, so drivers are moving too fast to notice any roadside activity. It is not unusual to see a lost motorist pulled over to the side of the road."

Here is a link to aerial photo of location described above:

So either the backpack etc did not belong to Danielle, or it would indicate she might have been grabbed at/after the school, before she ever boarded any motorized conveyance that Friday afternoon?

Do we have any proof that Danielle ever got home from school that Friday?

People that watched "Temptation Island" and wished they were part of it? reality-TV watchers that like seeing people hurt, and want to vote someone off the island of life? You're right - these threads are instructive about 2002 America.

That is what bothered me so much about this case early on.

In his original call to 911, Damon already was saying, "well, at least we still have two lovely boys to bring up." --after having spoken of Danielle in the past tense.

Similarly, every time we turn around we have Danielle being "in the other room"=out of his sight, out of sight=another euphemism for death.

It is a little like saying she had left the building.

Do you think that a person can believe that the prosecution has proven their case, and still be a conservative, a Christian, and a Republican?

Certainly. But I have the opposing belief that Westerfield did not murder the child.

My alteration of the name was a poke at the people that watch lame-stream media and think they know what has happened.

'course, I'm sure formerDem will show-up and provide the reasoning behind his/her declarations. Right ?

I think this was the shopping trip/passport pic day and Bren took them out of school early. I could be completely wrong on this so maybe someone else will remember better!

Danielle, not loved by Daddy, starved for male affection, would have been a sitting duck for an Avila-type abductor.

Definately, especially if Avila 1) Had a dog with him and lured DVD with it. 2) Was sitting at the park or drove by and saw her alone.
Let's face it, as I tried to point out before, Danielle as a victim was in an extremely HIGH risk catagory.
Now before we start with the "well it's just a really nice safe neighborhood" and "we just wouldn't ever think that something like this could happen here."
Because I'll tell you thats EXACTLY why it did.
Avila was smart, fast, and he plotted out his potential abduction area well. In Samantha's case alone I have alredy heard two interveiws with people that live on that street or block who have said that "lots of kids play unsupervised around here."
In DVD's case the park is not only down the street (prime spot for child abductions) but neighbors have said that children run around unsupervised. There is also court testimony that specifically points out that the VD children played outside their yard without adult supervision.

It's possible that Avila became stuck in frustration mode because he wasn't able maybe, with all the attention the case got early on, to "dispose"(display) of the body the way he wished(fantasized) about. This alone would have ruined or at least damaged the fantasy reenactment value of what, up to the media frenzy part, was a perfect abduction.
I belive that this frustration, coupled with the recent act and the possibility his 2 phone tips were ignored is what caused him to become careless or to not even care or consider being caught. Not to mention, I sorry if graphic, in Samantha's case he was going to make REAL sure they knew she was sexually assaulted and get the glory for it.

I tend to believe she was at home in the early evening, but was depressed at the prospect of another party night looming and being awakened at 1-2 am by Brenda and her playmates. Perhaps she was distressed and would leave the house until the guests went home. That night, another species of sexual misfit, Avila-X, was on the prowl.

I have this image of a very perceptive girl who could see through the machinations of her parents and who knew exactly what was going on, and wanted no part of it. Sometimes children have a heightened sense of fear and loathing about such things. Perhaps that is why Brenda warned Barbara to stay away from her.
