Why do I get the feeling that parts of this article (like the Marty Langley - "weapons expert" - parts) would remain essentially the same if the doper's weapon of choice was the old M1 Carbine (or even the 10/22)?

Seems to be another anti-gun article written by some reporter who has absolutely no knowledge of weaponry. Let's see? 30 (number of 2-second bursts in a minute) times 40 (number of rounds in a "clip", or is that magazine?) equals a cyclic rate of 1200 rounds per minute. Not bad for a modified AR15. Mr. Gurr needs to get his head back in the open air.

I personally would like all future production of liberals outlawed. But the manufacturers would just swap the mouth and the a-hole, take off the Birkenstocks and beads, and keep producing them as liberal 'sporters'. On the other hand, we get back to the old red herring..... The second ammendment is not to protect our hunting rights. It is to provide a means to protect our freedom and liberty from a corrupt and oppressive government a'la King George circa 1770. BTW - A computer and word processor in the wrong hands can cause far more damage than a AR-15. That can actually change law, create new taxes and restrict the freedom of the people or doom millions of fetus to death just for "being there."

Hells bells he could have been firing a 30-06 Remington 700 and they would still have been outgunned in the dark and in the woods. Which is it a 30 round magazine or a 40 round magazine? And oh yeah, lets promote the idea of a semi-auto assault rifle one more time. The public didn't buy into the propaganda the first 100,000 times. They modified the sear and made it an automatic which is what the SWAT guys carry so they are evenly matched except the SWAT guys always outnumber the bad guys. What a bunch of dreck!

I urge anybody to try to fire 30 rounds in 4 seconds from an AR-15. Particularly if it is bought with the standard 10 round magazine.

I didn't get far with this article - "sleek, black, mean-spirited, ugly, cop-killing, blah blah blah," gun. For cryin' out loud, most hunters consider the .223 a varment round.

I suspect that this is a teaser to see just how public reaction will be in Athens, GA. Atlanta turned limo-liberal years ago, but I'm not sure if Athens is a Red or Blue zone.

It appears to me that the reporter couldn't get a "take away all the guns" quote from the two Sheriffs he interviewed, so he had to go find an out-of-town liberal to quote.

Madison and Oconee Counties are rural counties outside of Athens (which is Clarke County). Although Oconee is growing fast with the liberals taking over, Madison County remains very conservative.

Regardless of how many rounds or the agenda behind this article it's basic premise is true. I live in N.E. Ga. and we're seeing a great increase in gangs with assault rifles. Many of the weapons are Chinese. Two kids were murdered just three weeks ago here by gang members with AR-15s during a drive-by. I didn't count the number of rounds, but I do know the house was cut to pieces. Our local LE is out gunned and under staffed.
