Snoopy was the mascot of the astronauts.

I was only three years old at the time, I don't remember any of it, but I consider this one of the greatest days in America's history. A proud-to-be-American 33rd anniversary bump.

And someday soon we'll be going back and this time it will be private enterprise making the effort and it will probably be for the purpose of setting up a hotel.

"MAN ON MOON" headlines will be no more.
Due to PC NASA, when we get to Mars the headlines will be "Woman on Mars" (you can bet if a woman is on the crew she will be the first to step on Mars--bet on it).
Now, if it is a man, "Humans on Mars" will be what we can expect.
"Man" will never again be used.
Heck, even Star Trek changed the "Where no man has gone before" to "Where no one has gone before."

Check out this ceremony to celebrate it at
Evoloterra.
There's also a good Fox News piece about it here.
