I think it is quite interesting that our major media outlets here have not reported on these events.

Very good article, and yes, this is being underreported in our media.

This part of the world is a good 200 years behind the "western" world. I don't know whether to blame the people over there for refusing to stand up for themselves, or our past policy of co-operating with a dictatorship as long as they kept the oil flowing.
Say what you will, but I'm happy as can be that Bush is at the helm right now. With Clinton or Gore in power, these people wouldn't have a chance.

With Clinton or Gore in power, these people wouldn't have a chance. A lot of people wouldn't have a chance. And that includes most of us, as well.

Wow! I didn't know about the speech!
When Iran topples, I suppose our media will have some 'splaining to do.

Look at this article. The Stealth President at work!

The only chance they have now is their own resoucefulness and desire for change. Rehtoric outside their country probably has as many negative effects as positive.

You really do have to wonder about our "newspaper of record," the New York Times and the Washington Post not reporting this incredibly signifcant series of developments. It sounds like Iran is ready to blow, something we've been waiting for since Reagan was inaugurated. This should have been on the front page (I won't even go into the network news vacuum, because I don't want to start laughing hysterically.) The news "judgment" being exercised at these papers is abysmal, provincial and ignorant.

"I think it is quite interesting that our major media outlets here have not reported on these events. Bias? < /sarcasm > "In the newspaper arena, NASCAR gets greater coverage than world events and the electronic media is on whatever news alert dujoir that will keep their listener/viewers glued to their commercials....
Some outlets report but until this completely bubbles over to a full civil war within Iran, don't expect to see coverage......Not Bias, just reality of maintaining readers/viewers/listeners......play to the masses...
But that's what makes F.R. great, news that flows just below the surface of the mainstream media is visible here!

No, they'll just credit some obscure European diplomat.

A couple of weeks ago, during a business trip to NYC, I saw Tom Friedman on the Charlie Rose show. Friedman went on and on about the 'democratic' nature of the regime in Iran. His theme was how the administration was simplistic and one-dimensional in their policy toward the Middle East and South Asia. Hope he has something to say about this when he returns from annual leave...

"We have seen throughout history the power of one simple idea: when given a choice, people will choose freedom. As we have witnessed over the past few days, the people of Iran want the same freedoms, human rights, and opportunities as people around the world. Their government should listen to their hopes." Stealth and truth.......a deadly combination, Miss Marple! The future of totalitarian regimes around the world is increasingly bleak under this President.
Thanks for the ping. Fascinating article!

The news "judgment" being exercised at these papers is abysmal, provincial and ignorant. Hey, the Emmy nominations just came out! You can't seriously expect these media outlets to have space for some Iran story now!

Yeah--I keep forgetting what is really important in this country. We can't have those nasty conservative, common-sensical people doing anything newsworthy, can we?

"We have seen throughout history the power of one simple idea: when given a choice, people will choose freedom. As we have witnessed over the past few days, the people of Iran want the same freedoms, human rights, and opportunities as people around the world. Their government should listen to their hopes." The President gives a speech which is well received by the masses in this Axis of Evil nation. The power of the President's words alone threaten to hasten the downfall ala Reagan's assault on the Evil Empire. This presents the sycophants in the press a great opportunity to bolster the President's popularity at a time when he is under attack by emphasizing the heroic potential of his wise foreign policy...No, wait...that would be if His Philandererness were still in office....let me rethink this.
Okay, if this story were reported, the President's popularity would shoot up even higher and nullify all the current attack strategies. So, there is no reporting of the story.., and there will be none unless there is a reversal and the press can headline "Bush Blunders in Middle East Lead to Iranian Castrophe."
The problem is that their wishes ain't likely to come true. Instead, the Axis of Evil may be a one or two legged stool by November. Can you imagine hard hard the NY Times must be hoping the ayatollah can hold things together? They sit around with their little Dem buddies and say, Why can't we have just on little economic depression or a major loss of life we can blame on Bush? Otherwise, we may face more elections of an illegitimate President and even an illegitimate Republican majority in Congress!"
They must really be sweating this one.
