I have no difficulty believing that it is true. Russian Communism was a terrible blight on everything it touched.

I think you missed the sentence that struck me - the contention that the huge increase in criminal activity began after the huge wave of Russian immigration. If it's true one must look closely at the implications.

I did miss that! Yes, decades of communism created many sociopaths who will do anything to make a buck. They were taught that business is a criminal activity so when the system blew up, they saw going into drugs, sex slavery and arms trafficking as not immoral.

There is a history behind the sex slave business however. Dr.Nelly Las at the Dinur Center for Research in Jewish History, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, has written of the sale of women from Europe to the United States and South America in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The trade reached its peak right before WWI, declined during the depression and ended with the outbreak of WWII. Now it has begun again. The World Zionist Organization published Dr. Lay's work in "Kivunim Hadashim ("New Directions"): The Journal of Zionism and Judaism." Unfortunately, it is in Hebrew and has not, to my knowledge, been translated into English. Ha'aretz did run an English synopsis of Dr. Lay's work in a fall of 2001 article.
