Alligators don't have spiked tails... Neither does the pictograph.
Actually, I don't think "Michpissy" represents an actual animal. There are too many other extant drawings that look nothing like this one. I do think the creator of this particular pictograph had travelled down the Mississippi far enough to see an alligator, however.
By the way, I didn't see that particular pictograph snapshot anywhere on the web except at bearfabrique. Is that you in the photo?

Indian oral traditions all describe the water panther as having a "great spiked tail" which it uses as a weapon. Not me in the photo.
