These HIV vaccines prevent infection by stimulating the production of antibodies. Isn't the presence of antibodies their means of confirming HIV "infection"?
Yup. Same problem as for TB. In Britain they immunize for TB routinely; in America they don't--and in America they test for, and react if they detect, your having antibodies for TB. But if you're from England, the presence of the antibodies for TB means zilch and there's no point at all to submitting to the test.

I know, I was just being silly, but thank you anyway ; )

All they need is a few $100B more to get there. In they mean time I thought I read in yesterday's papers that the virus was mutating to resist treatment.
There is no cure. The only prevention is to identify and isolate. The AIDS quilt will never stop growing.

I think what burns me up is the fact that it's *our* tax dollars for their lifestyle.

I agree! Cancer victims are true victims! AIDs victims knew what they were doing, taking risks! Strange, isn't it? When it comes to smoking, our freedoms are eroded in the name of preventing lung cancer. Laws are enacted to prevent smoking in public places, and cigarettes are taxed out the ying-yang, all in the name of preventing cancer. But when it comes to AIDS, not one lefty is willing to stand up and tell the gay community to curb their habit.

Do you mean that you don't want your money spent on this?!

I hear Keanu Reeves has set up a Glory Hole to fund the AIDS Vaccine research. Barney Frank has already donated 30K.

"Find a cure for cancer and others before a small special interest group infection. They made their own beds by their choices. Let them wait in line."
Confusion say, He who screams loudest, receives the most attention.
To: MrB
That's a good point of view I think.. I mean.. by that reasoning we shouldn't be looking for a cure for skin cancer(cover up you dummy!) or lung cancer(put out that cigarette my dear friend) or how about heart disease(because your not a vegan!). Preach on! I think you found a whole new line of reasoning that will save our planet.

I was going to say the same thing, but you said it better.

Yeah, but cancer affects all kinds of people, usually for no other reason than they're alive.
You have to go out and purposely look to get HIV. I don't have much sympahty for those that find it.

Sounds like one of the typical quacks that existed during the 1st quarter of the century. I'm not real big on healers.

You really think a disease that is nearly totally solely caused by irresponsible behavior should be treated before cancer or leukemia?
Maybe we should create a drunkenness vaccine that will prevent fall down drunks from getting inebriated and crashing their cars into families and children.

"These HIV vaccines prevent infection by stimulating the production of antibodies."
Isn't the presence of antibodies their means of confirming HIV "infection"? How will they distinguish between "good" antibodies and "bad" antibodies?
BWAAAAHAHAHAHA!
Well in one case, the vaccines produce antibodies to prevent infection by the HIV virus.
In the other case and the antibodies of those infected are the result of infection by the HIV virus.
They can tell the difference by doing a blood test for viral load.

We would hope to use it as part of immunisation for every child so we can put an end to this terrible disease Seems a bit extreme to vaccinate everybody for what is, after all, an almost completely preventable disease. After all, won't the vaccine have side-effects in at least some people?

They can tell the difference by doing a blood test for viral load. But they won't so what will it mean?
To: Conservative til I die
Actually, a sober-up pill would be a very useful thing, not just for drunks, but especially for people who drive by them on the road.

God will not be mocked. It won't work. AIDs transforms into what ever it takes to kill the Sodomite. That's what it's here for. Call it a mutant disenfectant. It's designed for cleansing. I guess that's why we have hemophiliacs, blood transfusion recipients, and children dying from AIDS.
God's trying to kill the Sodomite. Right.
And I guess the reason Lesbians are among the lowest risk groups for catching AIDS...because God favors and is protecting Lesbians?
Sure, there can be consequences for behaviors, especially those that violate natural law.
People who smoke might get cancer as a result.
This is not the same thing as God directly judging people for smoking by giving them cancer.
Nor is it for AIDS.
I just hope that if and when you are in the hospital dying from some disease, you don't get visitors with your mindset to come and remind you of some sin God is judging you over and killing you with this sickness.
And I hope you think twice next time about what you are saying before you hit the post button.
