An RAF Catalina? Sorry, bud, that's a PBY, and the crew was American, too. When the entire Royal Navy finally managed to sink one lone, crippled ship, and left the survivors to drown, that glorious victory was made possible by the USA.

American losses in WWII exceeded those of Great Britain. Since you are such a student of history, just thought you would like to correct the error in your rant.
To: ozzymandus
Like I said the copilot was an American named Smith. The British also used the PBY and called it the Catalina. Canada also produced the plane and called it the Canso. It was a Catalina of 209 Squadron RAF that spotted the Bismark on 26 May, 1941 after naval forces had lost contact.

The best thing that ever happened to England was Princess Di. And the government killed her. Since that day I haven't had a very good relationship with my mother country. So who cares what you think?
To: swampfox98
If you believe that
The best thing that ever happened to England was Princess Di. you are poorly read. And as the Princess of Wales, surely she has to be the best thing that happened to Wales too?
And where is the proof that she was topped by the British Government?

Dodie's dad is right. Even the US was spying on Di and Dodie for the British Secret Service. Di was pregnant and that would have caused a real mess for the Royal family. An old boyfriend of Di's was murdered a few years earlier, and the British press covered it up.
If Di's husband hadn't been a liar, an adulterer and a sex pervert Di would never have strayed from that marriage. It is his fault Di is dead, and he and that horseface mistress of his deserve each other.
And I ain't poorly read so knock it off.

And I ain't poorly read so knock it offThat's for sure. You definitely ain't poorly read and you're an avid reader of The National Enquirer too. And who said Americans don't love royalty?

Yeah, right on! I hide the Enquirer in my National Review.

I love how the Brits still can muster some arrogrance, even as their country rots at the core. That same hollow conceit allows them to pretend as if they're not like the rest of Europe, even when their leftist political attitudes and anti-Americanism are in lock step with the continent. You'd think that Europeans of all stripes would stand behind their so-called convictions and quit asking the horrible, imperialistic US for any kind of aid -- financial, military, diplomatic. But I guess that despite us ignorant Americans, the US is the only nation in the position to supply it.
Europeans are mostly bores, with very few original thoughts.

Is the Mirror a quality newspaper? Didn't you Brits invent the tabloid, and isn't it still your main news medium? And didn't David Bowie just criticize your country for being so celebrity obsessed that he can't live anymore in the UK for fear of tabloid reporters?
To: No Left Turn
I have no idea, I've never been to Britain . Other than being polite to the man why would anyone think David Bowie's opinion worth repeating?

It's not very hard to follow. In your defense of all things British on this thread, you attempted to smear an American poster as a National Enquirer reader. In reality, the bulk of Britain's print news media is National Enquirer-like. So much so that a prominent Brit, David Bowie, refuses to live in the UK, for fear of being hounded by a celebrity-obsessed culture, which is fueled in large part by tabloid papers. So, if you're not from Britain, where are you from, and why are you participating in this thread?
To: Snowyman
No need to reply. I just checked your profile. Canada. Of course, Canada.
To: No Left Turn
In your defense of all things British on this thread,What is that? When a poster posts an obvious error I would think he would prefer being corrected . The sighting of the Bismark was done by a British Catalina/PBY/Canso that happened to have a neutral US copilot/observer. To claim it was an American "gift" to the British is simply not true. When the PBY discovered the Japanese fleet at Midway if a Aussie happened to be on board to claim it as a "Aussie gift" to the Americans would be insulting.
If Swampfox wishes to follow the life and death of the Princess and throw an insult or two at Charlie that's great but subscribing to the numerous conspiracy theories about her death is the stuff that tabloids thrive on, not, as Swamp replied, the National Review.
Canada. Of course
Of Course!:)
