Douglas Rex Young, 51, was picked up on Sunday at the state prison when he went to visit a buddy.
My guess is AIDS, or possibly cancer.

Arrested today. On what grounds? The poor debilitated guy doesn't look capable of even cheating at cards.

I think they got him on a parole violation. Sounds like the cops are beating the bushes to see what rises.

Utah Cops, FBI Search Man's Trailer
By Associated Press
July 2, 2002, 10:04 PM EDT
SALT LAKE CITY -- Police and FBI agents on Tuesday again searched the mobile home of a man questioned in the disappearance of Elizabeth Smart.
Authorities carted off two bags after searching Richard Ricci's home and shed for two hours. Investigators would not comment on what they took.
Ricci, 48, worked as a handyman for the Smart family a year ago. He is being held on an unrelated parole violation.
His father-in-law, Dave Morse Sr., said he used a key to open Ricci's trailer so authorities wouldn't have to break in.
Detectives have said they have questions about Ricci's alibi June 5 -- the day police say the 14-year-old girl was taken by gunpoint from her bedroom.
Ricci has said he had nothing to do with the girl's disappearance, and that he was home with his wife that night.

Part of Young's parole terms was not to consort/mingle with other ex-cons. Apparently he and Ricci were seen together frequently.

Also... I think I heard tonight that Ricci is the one that gave police Young's name. Maybe as a partial alibi?

Some people here have been voicing their hope that Elizabeth is still alive. If by some chance that's true, what would be the most likely scenarios? One that comes to mind is that she has, indeed, run away. She had no idea just how big her disappearance would become and now she, along with a boyfriend perhaps, is afraid to reappear. Can anyone think of any other likely scenarios?
Personally, I don't believe she is still alive. When I see the pics of Ricci and that other ex-con, I wonder, "How horrific for that to be the last face little Elizabeth saw."

I posted this on Day 28 before I realized there was already a Day 29:
I've been thinking about the two hour time lapse before the parents knew about the abduction. I would imagine that the girls (ES and MK) have an alarm clock in their bedroom, and perhaps that's how MK was able to provide an accurate account.

Hey... I figured out that Trailer #158 has of one of the 3 cars (the Ford) sitting in front of it. (See Newsweek Magazine this week, if you get it weekly) This is one of the cars they wanted to know the whereabouts from May 30 to June 8. But I still don't know who lives at #158, but this was the trailer they pictured on TV, when the story broke about them wanting to question another sex offender that lives in the same park as Ricci. (I think it was you that was helping me try to locate who lived in #158 the other night)

One that comes to mind is that she has, indeed, run away. She had no idea just how big her disappearance would become and now she, along with a boyfriend perhaps, is afraid to reappear. That was one of my first thoughts (it ran into a lot of opposition from Ricci accusers). I hope it's true, because it seems to be the most likely scenario for her to remain alive.
To: brigette
Isn't there anyone living in that trailer park who isn't an ex-con or a known sex offender?
To: ChocChipCookie
There are many possible scenarios that could play into this if she is still alive. I don't want to go into detail about them. But you you search the web under "child stranger abductions" or "stranger abductions" or "non-family abductions". Also you have to study the perps that take children of Liz's age. Younger children are normally taken for different reasons than why teenagers are. Liz was 14, but due to her height... her perp may have thought she was older... Her face is mature looking also, but her body was not as mature as the majority of 14 year old teenagers. When the FBI do a profile on the perp... they consider many things... things about the victim and why she may have been picked out and then they built a profile on that and how the perp acted in the house and how he carried it out, to set a profile on him.
In my opinion... who did this was smarter than Ricci... it was not done for ransom oe was not done at random, but for self satisfaction on the perps part. He is older (40+) and is someone that knows the family or has seen Elizabeth before and studied her. He is also someone who is very confident in everyday life around others and he thinks he is untouchable. I also think he has grabbed teenagers before, probably of the streets or may have actually taken a teenager from their home before. This is someone that has gone undetected in the past in the area. He probably has a wife of his own and he probably has a nice size collection of underage (teenager) type porno. As far as her being alive... it is possible, as Liz is not a typical teenager in many ways, she may be worth keeping alive in the kidnappers eyes as he may actually have feelings for her. Another things is she may have been picked out partly because of her family's wealth. This would make the crime even more exciting to the perp. If I am right about who the perp is and if she is dead... he has something of hers. I may be something he took before the kidnapping or after it. It could be her panties as she was not wearing any jewelry. Just 2 piece pj's, shoes and panties probably. Or he may have taken pictures of her sometime and he has these. Until I see hard physical evidence in this case that Ricci is involved...then I believe Ricci is not the one. I also think the police have doubts also now that he is not the one, but now they have to make sure he is not the one since he has told conflicting stories. Ricci may be trying to hide something that is completely unrelated to the Smart case.
