Well, I'm not sure of your meaning here.
Do you recall the famous scene from the film The Godfather, where Michael Corleone is standing in the church, participating in the baptism of his nephew? While this is going on, all the Corleone "Family's" enemies are being systematically slaughtered. The scene is intercut with his responses to the priest, as people are mowed down in cold blood left and right.
Yes, I realize that is "fiction" but it depicts something that is quite real. "Religious" people will often say one thing and do another, and religion serves as a convenient cover for the godless and evil.
That is the way I see the "jihadists." They are wicked and evil beyond speaking, and they try to justify their actions through a religion that preaches againts what they do.
Again, I cannot look at a Muslim and think "here is someone who wants me and my family and everyone I love to die horribly."
I want my government to have the authority to watch people who are likely to do those sorts of things, but there is always a presumption of innocence--yes, even by the common citizen.
In the early Twentieth Century, immigrants from eastern and southern Europe came to the U.S. in large quantities. Many of them brought radical ideas with them, including marxism, revolution and anarchy.
The celebrated case of Sacco and Vanzetti was a trial of two men accused of holding up a Brink's truck and killing the driver. This brought to a head the "Red Scare" in the immediate post-World War I period, and many people believe even today that the two men were actually found guilty because they were avowed anarchists and militants.
For quite awhile afterward immigrants were immediately suspect, and very often persecuted, because of the actions of a few criminals, and the radical beliefs--unsavory but not illegal in our pluralistic society--of a few more.
That's what I think we have going on here now (at least on FR): A sort of "Islamic Scare" where every man in a turban and every woman with a hijjab, no matter how ordinary or innocuous, is IMMEDIATELY suspect of being in league with those who want to destroy our civilization.
Sorry, I just can't jump to conclusions in my old age as quickly as I used.
In my original post, #59, I specified "The implicit assumption, though, is that when they come out of church/synagogue/mosque/whatever, they are law-abiding, loyal Americans"
A religion which preaches that its followers should commit crimes against others, is an intolerable religion (in the literal sense of us being unable to tolerate its existance), whether it be Islam, the Kali/thugee death cult, Jim-Jones-ism, or whatever
The common denominator of "tolerable" religions is that they preach peace and honesty towards all of good will. Religions which sanction doing bad things to "outsiders" are to be suppressed. Religions which mandate doing bad things to outsiders are to be eliminated.
From my copy of the Koran:
Fight against such of those who have been given the Scripture as believe not in Allah nor the Last Day ... until they pay the tribute readily, being brought lowI have actually read the Koran cover-to-cover, rather than listening to what the PR flacks say it says.
Surah IX:29O ye who believe! Choose not for friends such of those who received the Scriptures before you
Surah V:57Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever ye find them, and take them captive, and besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush...
Surah IX:5And slay them wherever ye find them ... Such is the reward of disbelievers.
Surah II:191
My point is that the terrorists ARE acting in keeping with Islamic teachings. The Koran advocates peace, mercy and fellowship towards fellow Muslims, but very specifically advocates the killing and enslavement of those who oppose the spread of Islam.
Yes, there are many people of Islamic background who believe in love and fairness toward non Muslims. I also know many people of Jewish background who like eating ham and cheese sandwiches. In neither case are they acting according to the actual texts of their faiths.
This is not a good sign. We need to combat Islam with every fiber of our beings. It is not about religion.
It is about survival. Islam is out for the destruction of the western civilization.
That's how radical Islam spreads everywhere else ---Indonesia, Africa, India etc., no reason to believe these people are any different. Islam will feed on their resentments and bitterness.
More evidence illegal immigration isn't a serious issue.
Even if Fox is somehow a friend to the US, we shouldn't be naive and think things in Mexico can't change quickly. Having an open border might seem like a nice gesture but closing it won't be easy if things take a dive in Mexico --which I think will happen because of the instability the corruption of that government causes and the massive departure of so many. When over 10% of a population has left and many many more intend to leave, we can't believe things are improving or that there is any stability.
yeah but the mormons convert white elites, they don't even knock at the mestizo's houses. and you didn't know it castañeda is a sephardic jew.
