Wouldn't it actually be 5 am, 8 am, and noon? Pretty good viewing hours for the news, if you ask me.
BTW, someone claimed that Keyes was offered a 5 p.m. ET slot. That would be midnight in Israel.
I don't know about you, but I hardly ever watch TV that late at night--at 12 am or 11 pm. In fact, Fox News during breakfast and lunch and Keyes during dinner is my schedule. And sometimes reruns of the Cosby Show . . . but that's probably more information than you need.
In any case, the Israeli viewers are out there watching and appreciating Keyes' show. There's no denying that. Whether this factored into Keyes' desire to fight for his current timeslot, I don't know. It was just a possibility that came to my mind.
He's been getting exactly the average ratings for MSNBC. In fact, his numbers are comparable to what "The News with Brian Williams" got at this time last year.
Maybe MSNBC lost interest in the show when it became apparent Keyes wasn't going to bash Bush. :)

It would actually be 5 am, 9 am, and noon. Sorry for the mistake.
However, if I'm working, I can't watch the news at any of those times.
The MSNBC information said that they wanted Alan's show to follow the new Press/Buchanan show that will run from 2-4 pm. 4 pm Eastern = 11 pm in Jerusalem. Not the greatest time, but perhaps better for working people, and I would guess that they have VCRs in Israel.
In any case, "prime time" means the time with the most viewers, so MSNBC expects more viewers than average, and they don't want to keep programs where ratings are declining rather than increasing or at least staying level....Keyes' ratings for were 9% lower than the same time last year, but all the other news stations showed big increases for that time slot.
We could debate the reasons for the decline in ratings, but ratings = money and that's the name of the game.
