"What the police commissioner does not understand is that no matter what he says ... those who have the legal right to carry firearms can carry firearms," he said. This could get interesting. If these individuals were to be arrested for carrying firearms, what better case to present to the US Supreme Court?

"The department will not tolerate anyone brandishing weapons under the guise of protecting others," Commissioner Ray Kelly said Monday. "Anyone attempting to patrol the streets armed with weapons will be arrested."Now how do you think the cops are going to go about arresting themselves?

Now how do you think the cops are going to go about arresting themselves? Seems like the commissioner is a genuine graduate of the New York public school system.

"The department will not tolerate anyone brandishing weapons under the guise of protecting others,"Better put away your guns then, commissioner.

What is your view of this group and their proposal?? I commend them for standing up to defend themselves and their Second Amendment rights, but is this just a publicity stunt??

The Commissioner is a putz. The people have an inalienable right to protect themselves and others upon their own accord and do not need ANYONE's permission especially from a servant government.
If the police try and STEAL these peoples weapons or illegally try to DETAIN/KIDNAP these people for exercising their inalienable rights, then they should be treated as criminals.

Ray Kelly believes the citizens of NYC are subjects, whose rights are subservient to the king's.
They will not guarantee your safety, they will only guarantee your inability to guarantee your own safety.

"Counterproductive"??? Since when is a citizen of the United States not allowed to defend him/herself and his/her community from thugs, bandits, murderers and "terrorists"? Absolutely more power to Rabbi Lloyd and his people; this is yet one more reason why our Founding Fathers gave us the 2nd Amendment - so we could protect ourselves against foreign enemies as well as domestic. It seems to me that Kelly is taking the side of the foreign enemies.

This could be very interesting!
Didn't New York pass gun laws in the 1920s to deprive the immigrants and poor citizens of their right to self-defense ?
How dare the members of ADL want to be armed ! Also note they are right wingers now ! Ha !
To: hoosierham
My mistake, this is not the ADL but a group with more sense.

What is your view of this group and their proposal?? I commend them for standing up to defend themselves and their Second Amendment rights, but is this just a publicity stunt?? After reading a bit from their web site, http://www.jdl.org/, I'd say they appear to be a legitimate group. They don't present themselves to be a militant group such as the ADL, and appear to have organized events similar to FReeps.
I'd say their proposal is obviously quite unorthodox, but extremely within the intended protections of the 2nd Amendment. If any were arrested for the simple fact they've carried arms while providing a common defence against a potential terrorist attack, I'd say they'd have a pretty strong case.
Publicity stunt maybe, but a great one if it is...
To: SteamshipTime
Exactly.
That guy should put his mind in gear before he speaks. LOL!
Typical liberal mindset though ... can't have those scry citizens being armed and protecting themselves now can we?
Come on out west Mr. Commissioner and see how its done.

On Sunday, Rabbi Yakove Lloyd, president of the right-wing Jewish Defense Group>>>>
Hahahahahaha...God the media sucks
To: Sir Gawain
Better put away your guns then, commissioner. Better yet, perhaps he should take all of those nasty guns and hand them over to Rabbi Yakove Lloyd.
To: Jeff Head
oooh, oooh, I've got an idea. Let's move all the Jews to their own neighborhood. That way we can protect them better. For their own good, of course. We can't have citizens protecting themselves, can we? </sour chasm>

Ray Kelly believes the citizens of NYC are subjects, whose rights are subservient to the king's. Him and many before him.
They will not guarantee your safety, they will only guarantee your inability to guarantee your own safety.
The gun laws in New York and elsewhere only guarantee the criminal his victims will be defenseless.
To: Dutchy
They are bordering on the lunatic fringe, from what I've heard about them. However, in this country they have every right to protect themselves against people who want to harm them, whether because they're Jewish, or because they're lunatic fringy, or because of whatever. Regardless of what the NYPD commissioner says.
