Should US bomb Islamic holy places in case of major offense?

Arabs can hold a grudge for a thousand years and if we attacked Mecca we would be in a thousand year war. I don't think we want that.

It's all just tough talk from keyboard commandos. No rational person thinks we are at war with one-fourth of the world's population, or thinks we ought to do things to enrage them all. We are at war with terrorists who use Islam as a cover for their racist Arab nationalism, not against Islam itself. Luckily for us and for the world and for our posterity, President Bush is in the White House and not the keyboard commandos.

Realize that, even in WW II, we may have nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki, while incinerating Tokyo. But we never dropped a single bomb on Kyoto.

You hit mecca and vaporize the KABA stone...then you announce that Allah must have been asleep or on a long journey to allow his holiest site and city to be destroyed by infidel dogs...you do what the Romans did.. and hit them so hard psychologically that it creates doubt within the hearts of these Muslims of the rightness of their beliefs and causes. You destroy their holy sites to create a crisis of the faith within Islam.Incidentally, that is the real reason they hate Isreal so much...Isreal as prophesied is a nation again. Unfortunately for the Islamic faith, this reality drives a stake through the heart of Islam creating a cognitive dissonant backlash in many Islamic fundamentalists. An Isreal with Jewish people populating it...By Allah this can't be....unless Allah...wanted it...that way...? I mean the two faiths can't both be...right can..they? And darn those American Christians any way for praying for the peace of Jerusalem(and passing the ammunition..."and the wealth of the Gentile nations shall flow into her!")

With all due respect, you miss the big picture I'm afraid.

Oh were it only some crazy jihadists on the fringe: but these folks have the support of the Saudis, the Yemenis, the Iraqis, the Iranis...oh I could go on. It's MUCH bigger than an isolated few. These jihadists have emboldened the Arab "street" and their leaders.

In the mean time let's knock out the Kaaba stone in Mecca and slaughter a pig there instead...yeah it will make them angry ...until you realize that what has made them angry is that their whole life concept will have been shattered...Allah did not stop the desecration....is there really any truth to Islam?

It is foolish to think you will defeat ants by intimidation. Take their continued colonialism for granted regardless of your action, and your plans will be better. You defeat ants by killing them, wiping out their ability to colonize , and starving them from meaningful support. Not by a symbolic gesture. ants just don't and won't ever get it.

Bush had it right the first time - those who harbor and support terrorists are as much a threat and just as guilty as the terrorists themselves. I doubt they care more about their holy places than they do about their oil wells and riches. Going for the jugular does not equal bombing holy places IMO.
