Rather falsely asserted: I did not say that about him, that some of his people had attempted to do that.
I posted this interview transcript last night but Danny Boy's heavily medicated delivery was so boring that it made me so sleepy that this lie went right by me. Here, as quoted from this article, is what Rather actually said about Ashcroft:
It probably would be better for him to spend a little less time trying to, you know, sully up my reputation in some way, cover his own backside, and a little more time in lets get this thing straight.
This is yet ANOTHER outright LIE that Rather has told recently. The other lie was when he went on the Imus show a second time to explain his smear of Ashcroft and Rather claimed that someone from the Imus show contacted him about appearing. Not true. CBS contacted the Imus show, not the other way around.

Gosh, Dan Rather lied on TV. I am not surprised. He has made a career out of saying what he thinks people want to hear or what may get people mad. I think that the best possible situation is for Dan to realize that people know when he lies, and that people of integrity will neither grant him interviews nor pay attension to what he says. His ratings are starting to show how people are wising up to him.

Talk about needing medication...Dan Rather is a complete nut with too many words that make no sense at all. Besides the fact that he is a liar.

he noted: When you're in a hole, you don't just keep digging. And when you are a complete A$$ hole, you just keep stepping in it, Rather!

Remember, if Dan lied, it is not because of liberals, the Democrats or Dan rather himself, it is because he could not recall!!!!!

The part I wanted to highlight got knocked out of the text, here it is. This is what Rather denied saying.
The Justice Department denounced it as irresponsible. Ashcroft came on this show last week and said the reason he was asked to fly private was there were some personal attacks against him, fears that they had, and so they asked him to fly private. And then you went back on and said 'maybe it would be better for him to spend a little less time trying to sully up my reputation and cover his own backside.
So Rather denied accusing Ashcroft of trying to "sully up" his reputation. As you can see, Danny Boy DID make that charge.

Dan Rather lying? Is there gambling at Rick's Cafe?
To: PJ-Comix
Rather thinks Clinton is an "honest man". It is apparent that he has no concept of how to discern the truth from a lie.

Please read my Reply #7 to see the portion of the text that got knocked out when I screwed up trying to highlight it. To sum up: Dan Rather denied ever accusing Ashcroft of trying to sully his reputation and, as you can see from his quote on the Don Imus show, that is a LIE. He DID make that accusation of Ashcroft.

As we know, Rather (like Clinton) is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

Let us not be too harsh on the mentally impaired. Poor Dan is desperately tryng to hold on to his job with the Commmie Bull***t Network. He knows full well that he can get government assistance to treat his mental disabilty.
George Bush will be happy to have him given the treatment he so richly deserves./p>

As you can see, when you don't know which medication you are are taking, all kinds of odd things can come out of your mouth ;-)

Dan Rather lied.
Then he lied again to cover it up.
Then he lied when quizzed about it by Larry King.
(How am I doing so far?)
How exactly is this "Breaking News?" On this forum, I mean. Does this come as a huge surprise to anyone here?
(And I DON'T mean this to disparage your post!)

We all need to support Media Research Center with as much money as we can afford. Every $25 adds up. They are an indispensable resource.
I hate bumper stickers but I plan on using theirs anyway. "Don't Trust the Liberal Media"!

I think Rather is getting senile. Imagine saying Clinton is an honest man! Just shows Rather does not have all his marbles. he is one confused man lacking in credibiliy.

Here is that section again including the section I accidentally deleted by screwing up with my bold highlighting. Please read this since it sums up Rather's lie perfectly:
King recounted: It all starts with the 'I-man. On Imus last month, you said just before September 11th, John Ashcroft started to fly private planes, that would indicate that somebody somewhere was pretty worried. Why wasn't it shared with the public? The Justice Department denounced it as irresponsible. Ashcroft came on this show last week and said the reason he was asked to fly private was there were some personal attacks against him, fears that they had, and so they asked him to fly private. And then you went back on and said 'maybe it would be better for him to spend a little less time trying to sully up my reputation and cover his own backside.
Rather falsely asserted: I did not say that about him, that some of his people had attempted to do that.
In fact, this is what Rather stated on the May 24 Imus in the Morning: It probably would be better for him to spend a little less time trying to, you know, sully up my reputation in some way, cover his own backside, and a little more time in lets get this thing straight.
The him was quite clearly John Ashcroft.
