Geez..it's just a game. Let people cheer for whoever they want.
Generally I always cheer for US teams over foriegn teams, but there are some US atheletes I think are real jerks and I would be glad to them lose to anyone. So what.

Slander is a very serious thing, and so is accusing an competitive athlete of taking steriods.

Plus, I do not think of Serena Williams as being a "homegirl" just because she is black. Indeed, she showed a whole lot of class when Anna Kournikova made fun of Venus and Serena's physical looks. What's more, both of the Williams sisters are good examples of teamwork, family dedication, and what hard work can achieve. Good for them, there are way too many lazy people in our society today.

Unfortunately, Americans do not put much importance or money behind soccer; it just isn't a big money maker like basketball, football, hockey, or baseball

Right On! They have had since the mid 70's to develope, cultivate, promote and reape the benefits of this so-called sport. It ain't happened yet and it never will. Too slow and boring. Time to shoot the crippled horse.

Now if you'll excuse me, got to get back to the 3rd period of the Stanley Cup finals.

Maybe if soccer allowed unlimited substitutions and checking they could spruce up the game a bit....

Really? What did she say about them?

Hello? Maybe it's because the U.S. soccer team totally stinks...

Do you care to qualify that comment?..........

Is that picture supposed to be attractive? To me, it signifies everything unfeminine about the modern American women. Who gives a damn about a black bra - look at the WNBA-ish soccer clod it's wrapped around. And I don't care how much airbrushing Madison Avenue did after the fact, to try to make her into some kind of sex symbol.

Well, I had played girl's soccer all through high school and was pretty good at it. I believe that soccer is a great sport and one has to be a very good all around athlete in order to succeed in soccer. First, soccer players have to have vast amounts of endurance, it is not uncommon for soccer players to run 5 miles around the track for conditioning purposes. Soccer players also have to learn teamwork. Unlike basketball, ball-hogs do not get far in soccer--assists are just as good as goals in soccer. Soccer players also have to learn good strategy skills and must be in top physical condition. Soccer players have to have more endurance than basketball, football, hockey, or baseball.

In short, soccer is one of the most underrated sports.

Are the Americans even fielding a team in this here so-called "World Cup of Soccer?"

I cannot imagine anybody getting excited about a bunch of greasy-haired men running around a large field in shorts kicking a ball around that maybe goes in the net three times a game.

Only seven more weeks until NFL training camp...

Few of these immigrants will be cheering for the United States -- a fact that many nonimmigrant Americans see as tantamount to treason.

In 1998, for example, in a Gold Cup game in Pasadena, the U.S. team lost 1- 0 to Mexico before nearly 100,000 screaming fans -- nearly all whom cheered for the Tricolores, the nickname for the Mexican team.

After the game, bitter American fullback Alexi Lalas said, "Tomorrow morning they are going to get up and work in the United States and live in the United States and have all the benefits of living in the United States."

In this little passage, Gustavo Arellano reveals that he is a lying, dissembling shill.

It wasn't so outrageous that Mexicans cheered the Mexican team, even against our own. I don't mind if they have a little affection and longing for the countries they left.

What ticked people off was that they booed the American National Anthem and threw trash at our players.

But Arellano conveniently left that information out of his puff piece.

A bunch of 5'6", 125 lb guys run up and down the field for 3 hours. At the end of the game, the score is 0 to 0, and the fans tear down the stadium. That's not anything that excites me. And as far as soccer players being 'the greatest athletes in the world' - Dennis Rodman could kick any four soccer players asses, at the same time, while wearing a dress.

Soccer players are the best all around athletes in professional sports, period. Any professional soccer player could outrun Dennis Rodman or the average NBA player. As for football and basketball players--lifting weights is not the best form of exercise, it's not even aerobic. I always chuckle at all these football players at school who believe that just because they can bench-press hundreds of pounds, they are in top physical condition. Usually (with exception for the quarterback), they are around 20-50 pounds overweight, while the average soccer player is in top physical condition.

At its essence, rooting against the American soccer team symbolizes resistance to being absorbed into a country whose populace and government do not always do the right thing -- especially against the immigrants and their home countries.

Why don't they go back to their countries which always do the right thing?

P.S. I love soccer.
