Admittedly there is a lot to read on FR, and I've not covered it all.

My acquaintences volunteered their points of view, I did not solicit them, and yes it certainly is an unscientific sample. And, again, I don't base my views on the reactions of fellow freepers but rather (as previously stated), on an unscientific, unsolicited, anecdotal sampling of acquaintences, which were noticible to me in their similarity and intensity.

I've not watched TV in about 8 years, and I stopped listening to Rush about 4 years ago...too much babble about golf and football...

I don't recall having 'ignored or poo pooed' anything. I am in fact still reading a link given me by Texasforever.

I personally will blame anyone who does if the election outcome is a socialist victory....

Of course you will. It's so much easier to do that than face the reality a loss would be the fault of the RNC and Bubba Bush, himself. Maybe they should try running and backing actual conservative candidates if they want conservatives to vote for them?

Yes far too much babble about football and what a big, important man Rush now is. What utterly killed him for me, was a three hour/ wall to wall show he did on toe fungus, at the height of the Clinton mess ! His cloyingly cutsey attempts to pronounce certain words in a VERY badly done British accent didn't help any either. Bye, bye Rush !

The real problem , with your anecdotal poll, is that it's so small, and in only a tiny geographical area. None of my friends nor family, in 5 states, are bashing Bush, vowing to NEVER vote for him ever again; not a one of them. Do they agree / like everything he's said or done ? NO! Just some food for thought for you.

FWTW , the well known polls, showing Bush's historically high and long lived numbers, have been all over FR for days, weeks, and months.Selective readings can't give you what you need to know to debate here. Oh, and there is far less ( contentwise ) to read now, than there used to be here.

So called Consesrvatives, who are just the " unappeaseables " , can't be won over. No viable candidate is Conservative enough, for them.

My acquaintenaces have not gone as far as I have. They didn't say they would not vote for Bush again. I would not (as things stand anyway) vote for Bush again. What we have in common is a lack of trust that a campaign means anything, that a persons 'pedigree' if you will, means anything. This is a recent disillusionment for them...mine is much older.

I thought I said earlier, I am aware of Bush's poll numbers, i.e. I know what they are and the questions, etc. I've seen them on FR and elsewhere. What I don't know about those polls is what they actually measure in terms of how people would actually vote if they were in a voting booth today; what leaver would they pull, and against whom would they pull it for Bush; and what about the rest of the Rep ticket?

Thanks for suggestion to look at The list of some unConservative Reagan factoids have been posted. If you're interested, go skim the thread

Could you help me out a bit more with a thread name or link?

Thanks very much, either way.

This thread has the Reagan facts. I am HTML impaired and have no idea how link, never could learn how to CCP ( I'm a lowly " webbie " , so it's a different, more difficult method ) , so you'll have to take the will for the deed; sorry.

Since it is a whoopng 18 months into President Bush's first term and there is NO single , nor even multitude of announced Dem candidates, I doubt that any poll has been taken to to measure how he would do against hypothetical adversaries At least I haven't seen any such thing and find even the thought of it, now, absurd.

A fine lot of political naifs you know. Are they all that young ? FWIW, President Bush hasn't broken a single campaign promise. Assumptions don't count; what he said does .

But yes, I have been saying just that ( re a dictator ) till I am blue in the face. Many here, haven't an inkling , no matter how much they bluster on , about history, politics, nor reality.

I hadn't realized you meant this thread...yes I will go back over it.

I think assumptions are precisely the issue.

When one cannot assume that a republican president would not capriciously sign unconstitutional legislation into law, relying on it to be tested and thrown out....what assumptions can be made?

When one cannot assume that we would support Israel in pursuit of terrorism the same as we do....what assumptions can be made?

These are the things that are deeply troubling now to my friends.

ps: They are likely older than you or I, and I suspect neither of us are spring chickens.. :-D

No, my " salad days , when I was green ", are long gone and I wasn't all that green ( politically naive ) , when I was young. Unless your friends are " Senior Citizens " getting Social Security , then I doubt they're much my elder. No matter, age doesn't always bring wisdom nor knowledge with it.

WRONG ; " assumptions " about what policy will and will not be, are always foolhearty. There hasn't been one president , even during the 6 Day War, that hasn't made pronounceomentos about what Israel must and must not do. Neither do you know that Israel would have just flattened the Palis ( no matter how much you and I may have wanted them to ... and I, for one, wish they would ) anytime during the enduring mess recently; or before. Diplomacy takes many different shapes. : - )

My friends run the gamut from retired collecting SS to Gen X'rs

Corp exec's and VC's I know thru business to a Janitor at Church

None of us make our living at political punditry, we're all just regular folk in that regard. But again, the concern is, we regular folk expect people who ask us for our vote, to be what they pretend to be and honor the vote we give them. (I'm speaking for my friends now primarily - I'm more jaded and cynical than that)...but they are genuinely surprised and upset at many of Bush's decisions and wondering what they'll do come 2004.

One of the reasons we have had difficulty holding power is that Republicans have presented too harsh an edge. The Gingrich in your face approach does not always work. We need someone who's a little smoother, and that's Bush. Let's take for example this latest news that he's recognizing that global warming is a man made phenomenon. So what? He's not proposing any solution.

You are your namesake. Bush is dumber than a fox. He cuts off the legs of the ecco-wackos with "meaning-less nothing".

While it is true that the Bush-Bots worship him like the Clintoids worshipped Bubba-1,I don't think very many of them think he's God.

But yes, I have been saying just that ( re a dictator ) till I am blue in the face. Many here, haven't an inkling , no matter how much they bluster on , about history, politics, nor reality.

Here is where perception comes in. I read that post and saw it as indicating the Bush-Bots want Bubba-2 as a dictator, and nobody would or should have the right to criticise him.

Americans will have what they want/deserve.

Exactly. We need to work to reverse the focus on Self, and to expand our vision to match that of our forefathers. Only then will we have earned the stalwart legacy they bequeathed us.

Then lead. Too many people look for others to lead. That's the problem with this country.

I don't look for anyone to lead me, if you only knew me you'd understand.
look at my website in my profile, read some of the letters to the editor i've written.
I hav been blackballed by my own party, they are not Conservatives, that is the problem.

There has to be sweeping wins in the GOP primarys by conservatives. The rest will take care of itself.

Don't believe me? Just watch what happens in California for Governor.
